Because a smartphone requires access to the internet aka a data-package, and such service costs you about $40 extra on top of the basic cell phone service. No one 'needs' access to the internet form a phone, and yet millions of people pay for such service. Also, the smartphones aren't cheap either. Many will add another $30 or more to your monthly bill.
Nope. AT&T offers a smart phone plan for $40/month with includes several hundred minutes of talk, unlimited texts, and limited data. My smart phone cost me < $150/including tax. Wifi hotspots are everywhere BTW, from fast food restaurants to college campuses to the public library.
Even at $60/month with much more data, a smart phone is cheaper than a land-line/home internet.
Cable TV is NOT a neccessity. In fact, I just read an article about poor people habits and one if them was watching TV. Poor people watch much more TV on average than rich people. Getting ready of TV won't just lower your monthly bills, it can also make you more productive.
I completely agree. I also think you can pretty much watch anything you want without cable these days. All you need is an internet connection.

Right, and I don't want no stinking job getting in the way of my free time either!
No problem... if anyone can be transgender, they can be transage, as well. Just sign up for SS and Medicare "claiming" that you "feel" like and "identify" as you're age 65+.
Wage growth for the majority of American workers has been stagnant for decades, even as they work longer hours and take less time off. But the cost of living has continued to rise.
I'm sure if you think real hard, you can put those two facts together and figure out why Americans can't thrive on one income any longer.

Yesp. Sure there are cheaper options, but on average smart-phone related costs are very high.
