Many people, including many right here on c-d, are quite upset by the idea that a political party - a private organization - is somehow violating their constitutional rights when that organization gives more weight to long-time members than newbies excited about a particular candidate. So just how do you think most voters could be convinced to *give up* their actual constitutional right to vote directly for senators?

I'd like to see any Republican running for re-election in November to the House or Senate sponsor this amendment in the current session ... Maybe Trump can include it in his prescription to "make American great again".
Interesting article about the quiet movement among some conservatives to push for repealing the 17th Amendment, which implemented the direct election of US Senators:
The US is federal republic with an equilateral power-sharing system between the States, the People, and the federal government.
The 17th Amendment diminishes the power of the States.
The States should be free to amend their constitutions to select federal Senators any way they want.

Notice the Huffington Post says "a widespread sentiment among more extreme conservatives"! Extreme? What is 'extreme' about restoring the Constitution? Correcting a huge mistake is not 'extreme!' Typical of a Left-Wing rag like the Huffington Post!
Right! And let's repeal the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 19th Amendments as well since they are all "corruptions" of the Constitution.
Get a clue. The amendment process was specifically included in the US Constitution in order to "corrupt" it by adapting to changing situations and attitudes.
try again. the 17th amendment IS a corruption of the constitution, try reading sometime. the founders set up the house as the representatives of the people, and the senate as the representatives of the state. and they had good reason to do that. it prevents what has happened over the decades since the 17th amendment was passed and ratified, and that is the power of the states has been severely reduced and given over to the federal government.
we need to reverse that and take power away from the feds and give it back to the states.

Unfortunately Senate seats were then given away to big donors that helped a specific party win a state rather than a candidate that represents the state, or the people of the whole state. That is why House members get votes from their district while Senators get votes from the whole state because they represent the state, not just a district.

Right on!
If we got rid of the 17th we would miss out on the wonderful effects of Koch and Soros money in buying influence. Koch spends the money and we the people owe them!
