Pharmaceutical company Pfizer said Friday it was blocking use of its drugs in lethal injections, which means all federally-approved drugmakers whose medications could be used for executions have now put them off limits. "Pfizer makes its products to enhance and save the lives of the patients we serve. Consistent with these values, Pfizer strongly objects to the use of its products as lethal injections for capital punishment," the company said in the statement made public on its website Friday.
Can a manufacturer prohibit what is done with it's products once sold? Can Ford tell me that if I buy a Mustang that I cannot speed above the posted limit? Or Chevy once I buy a Camaro?

Looks like the firing squad is due for a comeback. None of the arms manufacturers nor ammo makers will object to their products being properly and justifiably used to end the life of a criminal who has been condemned for his heinous crimes.

Can a bartender refuse to serve a drunk?
And it ought to be Pfizer's right to discriminate for any reason it deems fit since it owns the product.

How bad is government when Pfizer refuses to do business with you based on "moral principles"?

Next thing you know Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs will cut ties with Uncle Sam as to not have their names dragged thru the mud.

Statism is one surreal crazy ride.

20 ton weight dropped from 20 feet.........no need for lethal cocktails

If euthanasia solution was good enough for my cherished coonhound, it is too good for a convicted perp.

No need for combo drugs. versaid and demerol at most with a veterinary euthanasia solution.

Squibb doesn;t want the bad PR. Plus, used as a lethal drug, especially when used in combination for which it has not been tested, puts the company at risk for lawsuits.
Execution is an off label use.

Not in Oklahoma. Last year, that state passed a law allowing it to experiment with administering nitrogen gas for capital punishment, even though some states ban its use to euthanize animals. If that experiment fails, then it has firing squad for backup.

I presume that this decision will not affect the use of drugs for euthanasia in states that have legalized the practice?

Executions are slowly going the way of the dodo anyway. This was bound to take place.

Why bother, just use the supply of heroin confiscated in drug raids.

No, but they can quit selling their product to companies if they don't agree with how they are using it.
