Well, it took them 2 hours to respond to the Paris shooter inside the house killing the police officer and torturing his wife. We aren't in their shoes so we don't know how they had to respond.

I don't know what the police were supposed to do. They don't go in guns blazing trying to be heroes, they just don't. They may exchange fire if there's an active shooter shooting at them, but if that person holds up with hostages they're going to wait and get orders and wait until a plan is devised and they have everything ready.

The lesson from Orlando is this: you are on your own. If you are on the gun control side, you might be dead before it happens to your liking. If you are not, police have shown time and again that they will wait on the outside until the killer runs out of bullets. They did it in Columbine twenty some years ago and they did it again last weekend. What they were waiting for is beyond me. So no, police are not coming. You are on your own.

...and people wonder why many people choose to arm themselves

How is the threat of a bomb is reduced by waiting?

Didn't they have some/much info from many escapees and phones inside? (maybe this was part of the problem...too much and conflicting info to sort out)

What the heck happened with the cops that engaged him early?

Hindsight is 20/20...in the future they won't wait this long.

I think you don't understand that you can buy these weapons as semi-automatics legally: AK47 Rifles - AK47 For Sale | Atlantic Firearms | AR15 & AK47 Rifles. You even get better accuracy using them in their semi-automatic mode.

They understand perfectly. They are like the lawyer or magician trying to get your focus on the irrelevant minor detail (the glove don't fit) like one weapons bill definition of "assault" just like high end fighting dog owners will try to focus on the DNA of "pit bull" instead of the big picture. The design which allows for rapid reloading and continuous firing.

The there is LAPD Chief Charlie Beck who I just saw on TV telling the ultimate goal. Only weapons which allow you to reload one shell at a time like the cowboy's single action revolver or a pump shotgun with a tube magazine would be allowed. Which would take the videos of the trick shooters who practice with speed loaders on their revolvers also out of the discussion.

Tell that to 12 year old Tamir Rice's family.

How many "hindsights" do you need? Every time we have a situation like this, a task force is formed to figure out why they were dilly dallying outside while the killer was shooting people inside. One other thing. When a cop shoots anyone, he gets suspended immediately and more than likely gets hauled into court. 50 people are shot dead for three hours and everybody goes back to work the next day. No task force needed.
