As much as it would be nice to think we will be protected by the police or government, ultimately we are our own last line of personal defense of our life and safety.

Yes. The time is an OUTRAGE! It is because it was a gay club. Let's just admit that. The Orlando cops weren't going to risk their lives for a bunch of ****.
The accepted norm is to make entry IMMEDIATELY with assets on hand and engage once the first person has a backup. Not wait three hoyrs for SWAT.
Why was this not done here - while young people BLED OUT.
one of the surviving victims today in an interview has criticized them taking 3 hours. IMO, she has a point.
not trying to armchair quarterback, but 3 hours?!
Agreed. Getting all the necessary police resources in place and organized, becoming aware of the tactical situation, and carefully approaching the building to prevent unnecessary deaths/injuries to civilians and the police, themselves, was a waste of time.
They should have lobbed some grenades, rushed in, shot from the hip, and maybe they would have accomplish something.
A terrorist armed with a handgun and AR15 comes into the club... I am sure the security outside tried to stop him,... to what level I dont know maybe they are dead... IT just so happens an armed off duty cop happened to be working the club.
IF he wasnt in the club I question how many more would actually be dead. (keep that in mind gun controllers)
Now during this time around 100 people were wounded or shot and or dead? they say around 320 were in the club at the time. Some got out etc...
They say the off duty cop engaged gun fire with the terrorist and only then did he move to the rest rooms at that time the killings stopped in the open floor. (Good thing he was there, otherwise the numbers would be even higher)
Seems like in a long time for the engagement of the off duty officer who was in the club. Maybe he was afraid and or thinking of a plan not sure.
As much as it would be nice to think we will be protected by the police or government, ultimately we are our own last line of personal defense of our life and safety.
then we should all be able to carry, anywhere. why should cops be the only ones with proper equipment to protect themselves?

[oh...wait ]
Don't be a troll. I teach this stuff. The current standard is to make immediate entry. Not shoot from the hip. And yes, flash bangs probably would have helped.
Though if you look at the TEN FOOT spread of "SWAT" bullet holes in the wall, clearly they need to learn to use the front sight.
Also, if the first cop had shot the guy in the teeth instead of missing, he would gave stopped it there. I'm not faulting the first cop, my great target groups go wide under stress too.
But having lots o bullets doesn't mean you can miss. Cops have a greater standard.
People seem to be ignoring the fact (as posted before) that the shooter said he was wearing explosives, and that his hostages were wearing explosives. The police had no way of knowing if this was true or not, but lobbing in grenades, or indeed any type of breach could have resulted in complete destruction of the building and all the occupants. Of course we are wiser with hindsight on this point now.
I don't have enough information to second guess them.
But they need to remember, terrorists don't take hostages; they gather victims.
