Should we abolish law enforcement agencies like police departments, the FBI and ATF in the US?

They eat up enormous resources. Since they are staffed by people, they will be continually a source of either tragic mistakes, corruption, racism and bullying.

Umm... no.

Police aren't perfect. We all know this. But neither is anything. Democracy is often severely flawed but I'm not about to throw that away and just see what replaces it. I'd much rather have a public police force, reliant on public oversight, than having, well, nothing.

There's a LOT of reform that needs to be done, but I am definitely not for eliminating law enforcement altogether.

This country would resemble the DR Congo in a flash.

Nah-just end the War on "Drugs" and allow Police to do their intended jobs of focusing their time/efforts on violent criminals instead of constantly harassing citizens of all stripes being not much more than revenue generators for the state.

We could just save some time and eliminate the state.

I know I know...who will pave the roads?!?!?!?

Americans once were like “killer bees.” When trespassed upon, the victim was not left to his own feeble devices. The community and the servant government were his allies, swarming to inflict justice in response to his injury.
“In Europe a criminal is an unhappy being who is struggling for his life against the ministers of justice, whilst the population is merely a spectator of the conflict; in America he is looked upon as an enemy of the human race, and the whole of mankind is against him.”
- - - Tocqueville, Alexis de, 1805-1859. . . Democracy in America, volume 1
Today, things are much different. We have an entrenched bureaucracy equivalent to "ministers of justice" who claim the monopoly on "fighting crime." And the community is more willing to tolerate and protect predators among them ("Snitches get stitches").

I think we'd be far better off without the "professionals" and rely on a fully armed and trained population to curb predators.

An armed jury of your peers is better than an armed agent of the State.

Well I gladly pay for their resources. They aren't all bad. If you don't want them in your state then maybe you should do something about it. And then those funds could go to your schools or something.

I'm OK with people being able to elect their Sheriff. Appointed Police are never held accountable.
