I already posted a similar thread but it went the way of the dinosaur and I am chomping at the bit to discuss this topic. I have spent the day surfing online in public and as usual am appalled at how people of all ages conduct themselves. When I first got here a young couple of friends talked at the top of their lungs about negative topics; I even heard them make a strange remark about "ugly" Germans (I am German). There have been several loud coughers including the 60 year old owner of the place who ought to be glad that I came in and spent money. The place has free Internet; why is my presence here an irritation to him? There are a couple of young kids who got mad at me when I asked them to listen to their rap music on ear thingies. I actually had to point out to them that this is a public place. I heard an old lady grumble out loud and use the phrase "THAT WAY" which has apparently swept the nation as the slang phrase du jour.

What is causing it people because I am at my wit's end.

Because we can!

Frankly, I haven't noticed the propensity for rudeness recognize any national boundaries.

I dunno. Why is anyone from any nation rude? I've been to hotels and restaurants owned by people who can barely speak English who, if you dare to make a complaint about something or just make a special request, they're very rude to you. The whole world is lowering it's standards, not just Americans.

I could tell you stories of Germans I've come across while vacationing in the States that would make you blush......based on those experiences, I would never assume that all Germans smelled bad, were beligerent and drunk most of the time. Because generalities are not only rude, but they are usually wrong as well.
Some Americans are rude, most are quite kind. I think you will find both here as you would in Germany.

When I went to Europe, I thought the Italians were pretty rude. This one vendor at the Colloseo called a tourist a "stupid pig" when he started getting too aggressive trying to sell her merchandise as she walked away. Rudeness is everywhere.

This country was founded by a bunch of rebels. It's in our country's DNA to be a little more forceful and aggressive than our European counterparts.

Well, here's a perfect example of that rudeness the OP was speaking about.

Catrinac, if you dislike that place so much why bother even staying there? You mention there was an owner of the establishment which means it wasn't a public space but you were on private property and the owner is the person who can decide what is acceptable behaviour. If it is such a nuisance why not go somewhere else?

I donno, but when I used to work in the tourism industry, come September any tall blonde that walk in the door you'd know they'd be German and their first words would be "I want a room, at discount, NOW!". Grass probably ain't always greener on the other side.
