I will never never never give someone a red flag because I disagree with them. The only way you may get a red flag from me is if you bring my mama into the arguement.
Interestly, about the only red flag that I have ever got was in the immigration section,I don't even go there anymore.Well I got one on a abortion comment once also,2 very heated topics.
I don't think anyone has to concern themselves with giving or getting those pesky lil neg reps around here any more
Giving Rep to others increases your own Rep, so those who might realize that and make sure that they get out and fill their daily quota of Rep-giving somewhere or other would be at an advantage. Plus Rep from Guests doesn't count in the official totals it seems. But if the Neg-Reps are gone, that's probably a good thing. Too many people would just get mad and...Ding!
Saganista gave me a neg-rep once, but I had it coming. That was my only one. I'm careful not let my emotions over-rule my logic. I see people on here get real personal and call names... I haven't given any neg-rep, but those people deserve it.
I don't give out rep just because I agree with someone, either. I do it because they are very poignant, present their argument well, and often times teach me something. I've given good rep to people I disagree with, just for having a good argument.

No it doesn't and I have no idea where you got that. The only way repping others will increase your total is if they rep ya right back.

Yes it does. go up and click on "My Settings" this will display your reps. You will see "Latest Reputation Received" and to the right of that your point total. Just to the right of that is a little round button. Click on that and it will show reps received from "non members" and which post they repped you on.

Oooh. Sorry about that. If it's any comfort, I've got thirty-something of them. Some of those were deserved too, but most not. I can't recall for sure how many I've given, but I'd certainly say it's less than ten. I'd rather just reply on the boards when that's possible. Used to sign them until I was informed by a Mod that you weren't supposed to. Then I stopped. All in all, I think I'm glad the option is gone. Maybe it would make sense to be able to neg-rep a particular post, rather than a poster...but on second thought, that would probably cause problems too. I don't know...I do think it would be good if people had a way to voice disapproval on one grounds or another, but maybe there's no real way to do it without causing more harm than good...

I was sure I had read that late one night long ago in the About the Forum forum, but I just looked and I can't find it, so now I have no idea where I got that either. There's still the bit about the complicated formula, and the Daily Rep limit, and the You-Must-Spread-Some-Rep limit, so at least I got those right.

Yes, I know where to find the non-member Reps, but from trying to develop a theory to explain quirky Rep behavior, I'd concluded that they must be FYI items only. Maybe it was just an incidence of the complicated formula being tweaked that led me astray on that score...
