A-#1 has to be a small WHITE HOUSE in the AIR - and it would not be really for him- but almost the next president- and as all is always delayed- probably the next POTUS so he doesn't care- but will it cut jobs? as far as planes- what we see falling from the air, exploding, and just having all kinds of issues- and malfunctions- make it a good plane- it needs to be the best of the best-
put the wifey and kid on the plane to DC -get him a good tutor- and save the tax payers those millions-
Tell Boeing to put in gold and diamond toilet seats and mark it up another $200 million. The POTUS needs the best of the best and those seats would require craftsman to be hired.

Yeah, it either has to be a $4 billion plane or a camper. It can't be a $350 million plane with a billion dollars in upgrades that would still be under the $1.65 the Air Force earmarked for the cost.

Love it. We finally have a president who is in touch with reality and actually cares about spending. Other presidents? Oh 2 billion? 20 billion, sure go ahead, hey better yet, here's a blank check for ya! No telling how many companies have been ripping the US government off with ridiculous contract amounts.

Obviously, the current airframes won't be running forever. Obviously, what is essentially a bespoke version of a 747 with a production run of 2 units will be expensive. Obviously, $4 billion calls for an explanation.
The practical solution would be to build palletized Presidential quarters and communication facilities that would slip into a C-17 with a nice paint job. Presto - milspec aircraft, rugged and dependable, capable of inflight refueling from the get-go, handles primitive runways with gusto, is equipped for defense already. And when something bigger and better comes along, we move the pallets into that.
