Is that the TWIC you use to get into ports? I think this is what it refers to.
Here is the information on the TWIC: https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic. They do cut the cost if you have a hazardous materials endorsement (I believe on your CDL). I left my endorsement expire since I have not driven truck for eight years (I do retain my CDL). So, probably in my case without the endorsement, I am in the same boat as most of my fellow Pennsylvanians. Heck; my wife prefers to drive!
I have not read all replies...someone may have mentioned it...but what about having to board another plane in a state other than the one you departed from?
That should not matter as long as your ID is in compliance. With anything new; there will be some problems and we still don't know how the new administration will address these problems.
REAL ID as the new licenses are called will have a gold star on them. Non-compliant ones will have "Not for Federal Identification Purposes" emblazoned on them. It's optional in AZ. If you want a REAL ID you have to show a PP/BC, Social Security Card, and two forms of ID like utility bills with the same address as goes on the ID. By agreement with Homeland Security we can use our old ones until 9/2020. I think the states in the OP will probably work out some similar arrangement with the feds for a transition period.
I think I have what is called an Enhanced Driver's License in Florida. When I went to renew my license, I showed them my Passport as ID. I have a big Gold Star at the right top of it. My husband only showed his BC and doesn't have that star.
When I fly, I go on a special security line and don't have to take off my shoes, jacket, etc. This line is very short and quick. One time the flight crew was right in front of me in line.
Yes, I suppose a US Passport is probably the best ID you can have, including for showing ID for Driver's License,
I get a new DL next year, and I have a passport -so I'm good to go. What's stupid is they closed many of the Fl DMV offices. Ugh
Passports is a pain in the A-- to get one. One actually has to give up a work day to get one.
We are into red tape when a DL is just fine. Do realize a Birth Certificate with seal , power bill to confirm address and a bill and a drop of blood is what need inmost states.
DL system is linked with all DVM around the country.
So we'll need yet another form of ID to board planes?? That makes no sense. What is the point of this? Let me guess: "revenue." @@
No the point is to try and protect Americans. Those states, sanctuary states like Washington, don't require proof of citizenship for a drivers license. Are you opposed to making it harder for terrorists to board planes? You clearly aren't opposed to making it easier for them and illegals to vote.

I am opposed to making it harder for Americans to board planes. Clearly a little profiling would solve the problem. We know who are the ones we need to worry about.
Do what I do,...don't fly. Airlines treat passenger like garbage and the TSA are a renat-a-cop joke if it weren't for all the sexual assault they're allowed to get away with. Street cops try to do what TSA does and they would be behind a desk pending a review which could result in being fired or jail.
