After what the GOP did with Garland's nomination, which was unprecedented, and what he threatened to do for FOUR YEARS with anyone Hilary nominated if she won, he has the nerve to say the American people won't stand for the Dems trying to hold anything up? What a hypocrite.

That comment was something surreal to hear. Totally absurd.

And yet very predictable. The Republicans are flip flopping around like fish out of water now that they are in charge.

I expect a lot more entertainment as divisions between them and Trump occur. I dont think any of them really understand that their constituents identify FAR more with Trump then they do with the GOP brand.

And defections from the GOP to the Democrats are possible if things become too chaotic. Interesting times.

Mitch McConnell is a complete joke. What Republicans have done though is set the precedent where Democrats can do the same and when they complain, we can openly laugh at them as I did when he whined about Democrats potentially holding up SC nominees. McConnell said there is no requirement that we even have nine or even eight. We can take as long as we want and we have absolutely no obligation to help Republicans in any way, shape or form. In fact, helping them only advances their cause and is no benefit to Democrats whatsoever. McConnell needs to settle down and accept it. Republicans control everything for the next four years, no checks or balances. In the areas where Democrats can put up a fight, they absolutely, positively should.

I think MSNBC misses one important point.

Schumer has no power to hold it up beyond his ability to fillibuster. How long can he stand at the podium and read from a phone book?

Beyond that, any nominee can be confirmed by simple vote. GOP has 52-48 majority, and Pence as President of Senate can also break ties.

Oh and there is the minor detail that 10 Democrat Senators are up for election in 2 years from states that Trump won.

Schumer is a paper tiger.

Dems aren't any better. Schumer said they will oppose Trump's nominees too.

Republicans wouldn't even hold hearings. Schumer said they would hold hearings but oppose those they had issue with. Scalia died in February and SCOTUS has been operating with only eight judges going on a year now. And McConnell said they would do the same for anyone Hillary nominated - wouldn't even look at them.

Garland was a moderate whom many Republicans had expressed admiration for in the past. Until Obama nominated him.

I won't disagree with anything you said but I have a feeling Dems aren't going to be much better based on what Schumer said. Somebody has to give in.
