Corey Booker was salivating for Lautenberg's senate seat not long after being elected mayor of Newark, and who can blame for wanting to get up and out of that job soon as possible.

Having first been slapped down by then senator Lautenberg and his supporters, the guy died and before he was cold in his grave Booker and his people began laying ground work to run for said seat. The rest is history as they say.

CB is doing what passes for politics these days; playing to his base (New Jersey). And for those of you who think of the place as peopled by those out of "The Sopranos". again Mr. Booker has won two elections and remains quite popular.
Kind of like a black liberal from Chicago

As for gay, who know; Charlie Crist just won a House seat despite the rumors that have dogged him for years. But that was a local election; as this cycle just proved it is hard to tell what plays well across the rich heartland of the Mid-West and South.

African-American? Can honestly say IMHO Obama was it for the foreseeable future. You only have to read some of the comments posted in this forum and elsewhere (the infamous "ape in a dress" comment about Mrs. Obama is a good example), to know not everyone is ready to hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

Of course if after three or four years of DT and the republicans have made a mess of things, all bets are off.

We've actually had quite a few Presidents from New York.

Booker is a man of principle. Even though the Repugs will confirm racist Sessions, it is good that Booker got it in Congressional records that the Sessions is bad for AG.

Only six were actually born and or resided in New York at time of election, when Trump is installed that sum reaches seven.

While still a high number (only Ohio approaches with six, and Virginia with 5), the last two prior to DT were Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Since FDR many have tried but none sealed the deal.

Booker has had his eye on the White House ever since he got into politics. He has long sought camera opportunities. This likely was his first campaign event for 2020. He is the kind of smooth that is dangerous. Sort of like Obama was smooth and knew how to work the media.

Sessions has done more for Civil rights than Booker. Booker just lied today for his own political gain.

Booker seems like the stereotypical political liar... when they show him doing what he did, it will turn off a lot of people... he tried to push an image and the only image they got was a partisan hack and not a very good one... I hope he runs cause he will get crushed... I am surprise none of the democrats tried to stop him and offer good advice, maybe they have another candidate they prefer over Booker...
