But that link says officials estimated 800,00-900,000 would attend before it started. It also says that the actual number can't really be verified.
But I do think looking at the parts of the mall that were filled in the photos he easily gets over 500,000 without trying. Add the not-quite-filled sections and I think that at least 700,000 came. It was a lot of folks, that's for sure.
Agreed. It's really hard to estimate crowd size, but Trump had way for than 190K like some dems are saying.
smaller than Obama? Sure. But definitely not showing that "hardly anyone there" like liberals were claiming
I dont think anyone said there was hardly anyone there.
The picture shows those close to the podium. It doesnt show the vast empty stretches at the back that were filled during Obamas, which are the ones Trump got angry over.
BTW, those photos were put on the Park Service website, Trump saw them , and ordered the pictures removed.

God, you just can't help yourself with lying. Seriously, do you think about it or does it just happen?
Look again at the stories, reading with comprehesion this time, about what was taken down from the Park Service site, why, and who ordered it.
If they did, you'd say not exactly filling up the streets. If they did fill up the streets, you'd say not exactly overflowing to the sidewalks. You get the point. Don't play that game here.
it's expected that the crowd would be smaller with any republican because DC is filled with liberals. Not very surprising.
There are so many variables you can't begin to compare. How do we know if access to the grounds was the same as for Obama's. That crowd is just fine. We are beyond that. Funny thing, the media spent a year and a half trying to convince Trump supporters that crowds don't matter, giving example after example of politicians with smaller crowds who won. All of a sudden, crowd size is now important.
I don't think I recall anyone saying "hardly anyone was there." Maybe on some Facebook posts, or ridiculous blogs, but not by the media or anyone else that I was conversing with. His viewing areas on the mall were sparse. That's okay. It's just that he boasted he was going have the biggest turnout ever. And he didn't.
Yeah, what was said was the turnout was lower than during Obama's inaugurations. Which is true. Spicer, for example, gave fake numbers for the metro ridership for the day. To be fair to him, he got all of the numbers wrong. Period. The actual ridership he gave for Trump's inauguration than lower than it really was. It's more that he's just incompetent than intentionally trying to mislead is basically my read on it. Although ridership was still low, lower than a normal weekday whereas it was higher than a normal weekday for Obama's inaugurations so he could have been intending to mislead as well and just threw in the all wrong numbers for when he got called on it. I think that's pretty unlikely. He's just incompetent rather than devious.
Honestly, it would be less of a story had Trump not poured a bunch of fuel on the fire. Obama was easily the most popular President at time of first inauguration that we've had in quiet a while. Trump is not. Setting aside his ego that's not really much of an issue. Maybe it's a big deal to a few liberals grasping at straws but for most of us, who really cares. He won the election is what ultimately matters to most Americans and not whether he's less or more popular than Obama was when he first won the election.

That's being a bit disingenuous.
Every inauguration the media reports on how many people came. There's no surprise in that. They report all the details big and small... that fashion, the planning, the inaugural address, etc.
That and before the inauguration Trump made claims he'd get the biggest crowd ever. So of course there would be follow up articles on that claim.
The media does screw up sometimes but this time they were just doing their job.
TRUMP made it a bigger deal than it needed to be when he 1. bragged beforehand how his inauguration would be the biggest ever then 2. blatantly lied when the reporting proved him wrong.
This is a controversy he brought on himself. There was nothing wrong with his actual turnout, he should have let it go. Instead he chose to pick a fight and lie about it.
