It didn't used to be that way. Republicans in the past were leaders in conservation. Theodore Roosevelt, Gifford Pinchot, Robert Stafford and others. The millionaires and billionaires have taken over the party to further their own financial gain at the expense of everything else. The pro-conservation and moderate wings of the GOP have shrunk in recent decades.

Why didn't the Democrats in Flint care about the environment?

Government is hardly perfect but the EPA has been effective in saving many lives in their efforts against pollution. Without government involvement at the federal level industry in less regulated states would still be highly polluting and that pollution crosses state lines. Some things the government shouldn't be involved with, but sometimes there's no other way to solve problems.

Sure but there are people who care about the environment and understand science and there are those who only care about money. Without government involvement, those who only care about money can do whatever they wish and there's no way to stop them peacefully. The government can represent the interests of a broader swath of the population and combat the excesses of greed.

well the people vote in the goverment so its hopefully fair to say that the goverment will then make decisions based on a particular mandate

you have to have some kind of " greater good " approach to some things , otherwise you have anarchy

in a representitive democracy , this should not happen , nowadays goverment tends to overepresent a small wealthy elite first and foremost

Ok first of all, the person who changes the water supply in Flint was appointed by Rick Snyder, a Republican Governor.

Secondly, LovetoRow is right, any threads that start with titles like this should be considered troll threats or null.

Because we can vote them out. How can we trust the rich to not poison us with pollution? They did so unhindered for two centuries.
