Interesting story and really not too surprising...

The helping hand offered by social welfare programs is being utilized by most legal and illegal immigrant families, the latest sign that many immigrants come to America for the taxpayer-funded benefits like Medicaid, subsidized food and cash, according to a new report based on Census data.

In analyzing new Census reports, the Center for Immigration Studies found that immigrant families with one or more children use welfare far more than "native" American families.

Of illegal immigrant households with children, 87 percent access one or more welfare programs, compared to 52 percent of native households.

"Three-fourths of immigrant households using welfare are headed by legal immigrants. Legal immigration is supposed to benefit the country, yet so many legal immigrants are not able to support themselves or their children. This raises important questions about the selection criteria used for legal immigration," said Camarota.

I think most Americans who question current immigration policy question it due to these numbers, and not because of racism or "nationalism". Those have just become popular canned retorts to lob at anyone questioning how we can sustain our nation's health if we continue to pour money into incoming immigrants instead of native citizens.

This thread will quickly devolve into a fantastic example of the tactic I speak of above. Wait for it.

Hopefully, this is temporary. I think most immigrants need a helping hand before they can stand on their own two feet and not rely on the gov't.

Think of it as an investment...

How about investing in our own poor (of which there are many) "first" and then lend a hand to others instead of putting outsiders first to the detriment of our own?
How about investing in our infrastructure (failing roads, bridges etc) first before bringing in more people who need/use our resources just to exist?

When we can claim that deep poverty and starving citizens has been 98% eliminated and our own infrastructure issues are solved THEN we can deal with non-citizen charity...

They don't if they're able bodied people who are just too lazy to work and think that living off of welfare is the way.

No, no a thousand times no. It's not an investment. It's giving money from those who are working, to those who are NOT working. The money is p*ssed away.

It's also teaching them how to rig the system so they continue to take from the government. Those percentages are breathtaking. 87% of these people are on the Dole.

It's time to take a Time Out and turn off the spigot.

Are you referring to immigrants or illegals? The two are not the same.

Question: How wealthy were your ancestors when they came here ? Did all of them have jobs immediately waiting ? I bet not. These people need a hand, are we too good now to help our fellow man?
