To all of you saying that identity politics and the race card have been around for a long time, I agree. But it seems like it took a front seat in terms of public discourse right when the Trayvon shooting happened. Well that was the beginning of BLM anyway, but maybe it could be argued that it was the Mike Brown shooting that really took things over the edge. But it's the emotional manipulation - showing pictures of the kid when they're 12 instead of 18 when they attacked someone who defended themselves - and creating false narratives, which to undo, inevitably made one sound like a racist. This way of thinking seemed to pop up all of a sudden with Trayvon.

OK all the above and the legal team used the race card.

Lots of liberals are being left behind.
Liberals/progressives and democratic are at each other throats over why Hillary lost. Major divide that will take a long time to heal as the three branches of the party split even further with the election of the new DNC chairman. The Obama coalition, the progressive coalition and the Bernie coalition has a lot of soul searching to do.

Fact: The Ku Klux Klan was originally and primarily an arm of the Southern Democratic Party. Its mission was to terrorize freed slaves and "ni**er-loving" (their words) Republicans who sympathized with them.

Fact: During the Civil War era, the "Radical Republicans" were given that name because they wanted to not only end slavery but also to endow the freed slaves with full citizenship, equality, and rights.

Fact: The 14th Amendment, giving full citizenship to freed slaves, passed in 1868 with 94% Republican support and 0% Democrat support in congress. The 15th Amendment, giving freed slaves the right to vote, passed in 1870 with 100% Republican support and 0% Democrat support in congress.

Fact: Contrary to popular misconception, the parties never "switched" on racism. The Democrats just switched from overt racism to a subversive strategy of getting blacks as dependent as possible on government to secure their votes. At the same time, they began a cynical smear campaign to label anyone who opposes their devious strategy as greedy racists.

A Short History of Democrats, Republicans, and Racism

From that point forward Dems lost seats in every election.

Obama's election had nowhere to go but down because the man was not qualified to do the job.

All after a rather sizeable majority of Americans shouted "No!" loudly.

Watch the espn documentary. They show jurors today admitting that it was payback for Rodney King.

Instead of fighting against climate change, wealth inequality, the war on drugs, and things that most rational people could get on board with, the left (and I consider myself on the left) took a turn towards identity politics with incredibly divisive incidents that were sloppily reported on to create a narrative - a narrative that there's an epidemic of black people being murdered by white people and police officers.

This narrative is and was false when looking at the larger picture and statistics. It was driven purely by anecdotes. And yet anybody who pointed this out was called a racist, on the wrong side of history, etc. This identity politic/blm/social justice way of looking at the world does not stand up to critical thought. And so smart, skeptical people found themselves supposedly on the "wrong side of history." I myself was called a right winger for pointing these things out. And to me, this made it clear that the left was in trouble. I don't think it's a coincidence that Trump is now president...anyone agree?
i am about 8 miles from there maybe 10 - fact is ZIM was a wanna be- did not announce himself wear a uniform or give a warning-- and did NOT follow instruction- the kid like any kids from Miami would do- if scared and think you in danger you fight- I have asked police, and younger people... NONE agree with ZIM-- the one who stood his ground was Trayvon - he was not doing anything -- except going home. This was death by profile... want to make it political- wear yourself out--- there is a GOD who sees all and know,, ZIM will NEVER be a peace-

It started the phenomenon of coming up with any excuse to blame black people for getting shot by police or vigilantes for something as criminal as sitting in a park. Or selling individual cigarettes untaxed.

The left went from overt to covert racism.

Yes, they pulled the race card; however, not many people paid serious attention to it. Radicals made some hay from it, but they were a small minority.

I don't believe race had anything to do with the verdict, but that is just my opinion.
