If the drug company cannot charge a high enough price anywhere, then their profits would be lower. And if the profits are too low then the drug might not be developed in the first place. It is simple economics.
The government has developed many new drugs. There are many ways to handle this. Many colleges have medical facilities that develop drugs. Research can be a requirement for continued government funding.

It's worked in the past. Countries with UHC still develop drugs also.
Roche is based in Switzerland. Sanofi in France. Viagra was actually developed in England.

the cost is way out of hand for the budget or the taxpayer
our government (the taxpayers) spend over 1 trillion dollars just on medicare and Medicaid

in 2000 medicare was 216 billion
in 2008 medicare was 456 billion
in 2016 medicare was 691 billion
what is even more interesting is what the predicted outlays will be in the future

prediction for 2020....963 billion
prediction for 2026....1.383 Trillion
actual Medicaid 2016.....368 billion
prediction for 2020....450 billion
prediction for 2026....616 Billion
that's just the GOVERNMENT costs of Medicare and Medicaid.. on top of that you have the VA..and then what the PEOPLE are already paying for private insurance

well this is exactly what wealthy GOP members wanted. A massive tax cut (thanks) and taking healthcare insurance security from lower income and sick people.
the return of SICK POOLS needs to be pointed out time and time and time again.
Sick pools mean if you get any chronic illness you will end up paying massive insurance costs because the US gov is going to allow insurers to put you all in one basket. Which means you end up losing your home , you eat up your life savings.
Plus we cant ignore the lie of state borders, there are NO border rules stopping any company from selling across borders.
State borders are another lie. they don't exist apart from states having different standards that must be met.
Free market no where in the world is there a free market healthcare insurance market. NO WHERE.
NOTE there is NO expected decrease in premiums, but by 2026 they may slow the rate of increase. that is all.
so who wins? Well the rich win and the lower income trumpers lose out the most.
