This is an interesting ruling coming out of the 11th Circuit. Cops come to your home without a warrant or any evidence that you've committed a crime. In fact, they've come to the wrong address PERIOD! They allegedly don't even announce that they're the cops....nevermind that they're showing up at an ungodly hour...
So you grab your gun...and this happens:
Andrew Scott was in his apartment playing video games with his girlfriend when four police officers arrived. As David French of National Review pointed out, the police had no search warrant, didn’t turn on their emergency lights, didn’t identify themselves as police, misunderstood a neighbor’s directions, and showed up at the wrong house, but Scott, who was acknowledged by both sides in the case had been retreating when he opened the door for the cops, was shot dead anyway.
I gotta go with the dissenting justices on this one. This episode was a case of "Knock, knock...bang, bang, you're dead!"
And this notion of trading your 2nd Amendment rights in for the privilege of exercising your 4th Amendment rights is, shall we say...philosophically repugnant.
Okay Scott had a gun. The offcers probably shot him because he wasn't obeying officers order, that happens. When you point a gun at a police officer they have that right to protect themselves.
The increasing militarization of the police is a problem that has needed to be addressed for a long time, but unfortunately it was hijacked by the BLM and other SJW groups and made in to a racial issue, which allowed it to devolve into a white vs black emotionally charged issue that completely ignored what was at the root of a problem Americans of all races share. It was almost as if it had been designed that way.

the OP says they didn't have on emergency lights, and didn't announce themselves as police and they were at the wrong house.

Hmmmm....
Should be noted the Judge who wrote this opinion Frank Hull was a Democrat appointment made by Bill Clinton.

They were doing a door to door in an apartment building looking for an assault suspect. Cops dont normally use their emergency lights or announce "this is the police" when doing such.
But this guy apparently routinely answers his door with his gun pointed at whoever is on the other side?
Guess he thought it was girl scouts or Jehovah witnesses.
At any rate no, cops cant come to your home and legally shoot you if you have a gun in your hand but if you open the door with a gun pointed at their face they can legally protect themselves as citizens can in many jurisdictions.

First, ALL judges at any level are supposed to be apolitical and should not be rendering any verdicts based on their personal ideology. Judges are increasingly becoming political and THAT is a HUGE problem.
Second, no knock warrants should be illegal and they have caused thousands of innocent people to be harmed in their own homes by cops.
If cops break through a door without a warrant and someone in the home is shot by them then it is murder.
If they have a warrant and get the address wrong, same thing.
The last time I checked that is trampling on constitutionally protected rights, a felony.
Militarized police dressed in black and armored up are exactly the same as the SS in Nazi Germany.

Erm... no citizen can walk up to a home knock on the door and if the owner is pointing a gun at him/her shoot him/her. Only the police can do this, and they spin everything as reasonable.
Cops, while I respect the nature of their work, have become spin doctors themselves. This makes it possible for some really bad ones to get away with really bad deeds.
