An Oklahoma congressman is facing scrutiny after a video posted Monday showed him telling constituents at a town hall that they do not pay his salary.
"You say you pay for me to do this? That's bull crap. I pay for myself," Rep. Markwayne Mullin told constituents at a town hall in Jay, Oklahoma. I paid enough taxes before I got here and continue to through my company to pay my own salary. This is a service. No one here pays me to go."
I suppose, in a way, he may be correct.
It isn't really smart to point it out, though.
No, he's not correct. He's basically saying that he doesn't have to listen to his constituents because he's not beholden to them for his livelihood. I wonder why he thinks he's there, if not to serve the people who elected him.
This man should not be in office..........he forgets the term "public servant" pertains to him. Just like I am at my job to serve my customers, we are HIS customer.
Wish I was a voter in his district, he would be back to running his other business real quick.

Let's see...
What else did he say?
Oh, yeah, "This is a service. No one here pays me to go."
So, I guess he does serve his constituents, regardless of where his salary comes from.
Perhaps he has paid enough in taxes over the years to pay (offset) his own salary. I don't know.
I know that is the way I felt when I was a drilling reservist. My Federal Income taxes paid my military pay, and then some. The same thing applies to the Vietnam Veteran's bonus that the State of Montana gave me way back when. My State Income taxes paid for the bonus check, and then some. The state merely gave some of my money back to me. Then they considered it taxable income!
There is no sense in "reading between the lines". All that is found there is empty space.
