................Another example is if you buy airplane tickets online and rent a car online. Someone can get the dates that you will be on vacation. There could even be a new company that buys ISP content and they can extrapolate such data and sell a service that is something like "get anyone's future vacation dates". Burglars can subscribe and break into your home when you are gone.
Hmmmmm...........

two or three weeks ago, Firefox automatically updated on me and WIPED out all my bookmarks or, if they are still there, I don't have a clue to where they are. It seems like the system automatically sabotages itself. Now, on my part of it, it is probably a good thing in that instead of spending so much effort during the "market times" (2 6 hour periods a week when internet time is free) downloading to my home drives from the search finds of a few years ago, I am economizing my computer usage.

Which leads to the second paragraph. Perhaps to a world that has grown up on the Internet, this is a major disaster because they know no other way to operate. To me, this is reverting to other methods.....such as why people still use FAX machines. Or employ house sitters.

Really? That one is a scam?

When I got that one on the answering machine, oh maybe in 2014 or before, I just disregarded it on the grounds of too much work to get what they claimed because it only applied under very certain conditions.

As it was, the awards offer that "jaded" me against those calls, it happened to me a few years before, was using the exact techniques shown in a training film about mail fraud that I seen even earlier. That is, the "salesman" gets into a bind with the things he is offering you, leaves the phone for a few minutes to talk to the supervisor, and comes back to say, "Good news, Tamara! We can swing it!" .... and they reel you in more.

Salesmen on the phone, whether con or legit, have an additional hurdle with me if they even get to talk to me. As a Vampirelle, they usually call during my sleep time so I have no time for sales talk. It is cut to the chase and tell me up front what the case is. If it sounds nice, then it's "Fine, send it to me in writing.".

That usually stops most short for if its legit, they don't have the time and if it is a con, then that's mail fraud and quickly involves the Feds...............

.........................which all comes down to that this Internet issue can be a good thing on some levels in that it gets people thinking outside the box of what the Internet is. Of course, the "send it to me in writing" might call for a PO Box for added security, but that's the kind of world we are in, anyhow.

Whoa. I have about 732 current bookmarks -- HUGE backlog of vids I need to listen to and articles I need to read, and I listen to at least 10 vids a day and read 30 articles a day.

I use XMarks to keep everything straight between the four different devices (work, home, mobile) I use.

It was a bit frustrating when it happened especially since out here in the country, watching videos is very expensive in the non "market times" windows. I only have 50 Gigs that I can down load and have to save that for things like weather radar, low water crossing closures, and the like.

So I had this plan to go through my bookmarks, of before, and build my databases in the free download periods..........................and then Firefox updated. So now I have zero bookmarks.

As it is, it is a few things. Even before this ISP thing came up, I have been a little bit more cautious about what I look at on the satellite provider as compared to what I did when it was on cable. Maybe it is my paranoia or maybe it is just that my background stress has dropped and my use of the Net has switched some. So the bookmarks I might have "depended so much on before" really don't seem like that much of a loss to me now.

When I found out how much watching videos cost me in downloads, I started cataloging my picture files which there are OODLES of, DECADES of OODLES. When the Net is easy, it is so easy just to down load stuff as oppose to looking what we already have.

A few months ago, when I was trying to figure out how to use the Net out in the country, I pictured the possibility of formulating my questions during the day, asking them to the Net at work and getting my answers and downloads, and then sorting back at home, only to rinse and repeat the next day. It has sort of turned out like that which from this ISP issue, is a good thing. It means they get my search history on the work ISP....and I've always suspected that was watched.

Finally, just a note, I use pictures as visual references, index markers, and the like. So find a picture that reminds me of this password (I don't write down passwords but use visual reminders), that note, is practically a daily practice in my life. So I might use the mess hall scene from Aliens if I noted on some day that there was a problem (just opened to a page of a journal and found that). I can't see how a history of searching the Net for pics from that movie being an issue. Searching for, oh to give a mild example, pics of Patti McGuire on the other hand...............(nothing so sinister as that association is about dog walking and base ball).

Naw...prolly shouldn't.

Apart from some mild embarrassment, would you be in any trouble?
What's mile embarrassment? Porn sites?
