Apparently it doesn't even matter to some of the students or to the local CBS News affiliate that the note was a hoax. It was a good thing because it united people.
the college paper, the Manitou Messenger is chock full of social justice warrior stories, but nothing at all, even two days later, on the fact that this was just a big-ass hoax.
how odd.
however, there are some choice comments on their previous stories.

Where is the Mess's breathless reporting now that there has been a significant development in the case?

So stunning and brave. What a bunch of hero's. Protesting racism that does not and has never existed.
So marginalized (despite, you know, attending an extremely expensive school).
Everyone is a victim.

It says a lot about the culture in the St Olaf community that so many people were so willing to immediately and unquestioningly fall for this hoax. They instantly thought the worst of the people they live and work with. It's such a corrosive, paranoid atmosphere.

There don't appear to be any Profiles in Courage awards heading St. Olaf's way. We'll see if anyone has the courage to denounce, loudly, the perpetrator(s) of this hoax. That is the very least that should be done. If it was done by a student, that person ought to be expelled.
The Manitou Messenger, after being all over the original story, seemingly can't find anyone with a pulse willing to write about these subsequent developments.
CBS local is now busy spinning the incident to make the perpetrator look like a victim.

While Bemel does not know the student who fabricated the note, she says hoaxes happen for a variety of reasons depending on the individual.
“It’s very difficult to feel isolated and unheard and not as visible,” Bemel said
99.99999999% of 'hate crimes' by whites are fake made up stories.
Don't be stupid. As I type this I'm sitting within a few miles of where a white supremacist murdered a few people at a jewish center a couple years ago. It wasn't a "fake story".
330million people in this country, of course you're going to get some real buttheads in a group that large.
Not the first time or the last. Tawana Brawley. Or a couple of years ago the noose in one of the NYC colleges. Sad part is that blacks that have legitimate complaints of racism are less likely to be believed.
