I have been watching SNL religiously since my childhood when John Belushi and Gilda Radner were in the cast. I stopped watching it just a couple of months ago. I think it finally jumped the shark.
Me too. I quit when I no longer recognized any of the musical acts or half of the hosts. But like many, I am back enjoying the portrayals of Trump and his bumbling staff. These days, I record it and then go through for the "Trump stuff". Like back in the day, most of the skits are just not very good (funny). I do like it that they are doing the thing live nationwide now. Out west, we always got it after the fact. Now it comes on even before this old guy's bedtime. The live show is reflective of just how much the ratings have surged since Trump came along.
[quote=bentlebee;48149964]Let me start out by saying that I rarely watch SNL and most I see is when other networks or when videos are posted on social media and than I don't even watch it much.

So, you admit to posting and berating something you know nothing about. You complain about SNL but don't watch SNL ,well that means you have no right to b#### about SNL.It's a great comedy show they have be doing "POLITICAL SATIRE for YEARS"!It's not our job to help you understand something you are ignorant about and that is SNL
Watch the ratings drop so fast until they have not much to go for then to change or be out of business.
Watching the real politics with cry babies, whiners on the left is way more funny to watch!
I never expected the left to be such a losers and bad losers.
We will enjoy another great MAGA!
Don't hold your breath. As long as the ratings are going upward, SNL will keep on doing what they did to get the raise.
After 40-some years, the show knows the right buttons to push to stay on the air.
Saturday Night Live is unique in that it has never depended on one cast, one group of writers, or anything else of the stuff that makes for a long-running show on television. It's the only show that has always flown by the seat of its pants, aiming its comedy in the moment, at what is happening right then.
Now, after so many decades, seizing the moment is their natural condition. They know what funny is better than any bunch in the business. Humor constantly changes, and the improvisation that the show had in its beginnings has allowed SNL to be funny, no matter who or what is happening.
Episodes do sometimes flop. But when SNL is on a roll, it knows how to keep rolling.
Even if Trump was the most popular person in the nation, they would still go after him. That's how they roll.
And once he's gone, they'll haul him back up from the dead if it pulls another laugh. That's how they roll, too.
If you haven't realized all that by now, you haven't been here in America long enough. When Saturday Night Live stops being funny to millions of people every week, it will disappear.
Just don't expect it to happen anytime soon, though, because the show was built to be durable.
Reasonable Americans need a break from the insanity of the current political reality. Without political satire we'd think our country has lost its mind.
Trump apologists have turned this country upside down. Reasonable Americans fail to understand why there isn't outrage for some of the stunts these politicians have pulled. Common sense has been replaced by undying loyalty to party. Practical solutions have been replaced by insanity. That so many people who call themselves Americans can't see this is mind boggling.
Political satire has become America's therapy. But there will always be people who insist they don't need therapy when they are the ones who need it the most.
I rarely watch anymore, but I hope this country never stops making fun of its political class, it deserves every bit of it.
Yup.
That's why Kings kept jesters in court. Bringing the mighty down a peg is one way to keep any society from spinning out of control. As long as we can continue to laugh in the face of power, we can face another day of life ourselves.
From what I understood, SNL's rating pre-Trump were in the toilet. SNL attracts a certain demographic of people of which I am not one. It is standup comedy which I always find offensive. Those that partake in such a thing are generally miserable people that hate the world and this is their way of striking back in a cowardly way.
I would say to just not pay any attention to them. Again, "a certain demographic" enjoys such a show.
If you put yourself in the public eye you accept that part of that is being the object of the butt of political jokes. If you are too thinned skin for that, stay home.
I didn't see whatever is being complained about and my complaint with SNL is how they run something into the ground but dang, the music can be good on occasion.
