Russia also wants to keep Assad in power and they're Iran's ally. Contrary to what the voices in your head keep telling you, Russia is not our Ally.
Imagine if Trump were President when we invaded Normandy. He would have to broadcast it to the Germans as he would feel the Germans were our Ally in that Hitler likely would have said nice things about him.
