While it was already pointed out the CA produces a large amount of food, you migh want to se if any of those refineries, farms, or various other places you refer to need to us credit at any point. If they do, which they all do, you might be shocked to learn without the Blue coastal states you're up sh$ts creek.

I live in CA , but it has some big issues . When taking into account cost of living it has the highest poverty rate.
The high cost of housing is mostly the reason. Taxes are also getting higher and higher which of course affects the poor and middle class more than the rich .

Lots of corruption as well . CA spends about $25 billion on illegals , education ,healthcare ,food stamps etc
Yet we can't fix the roads or provide basic services for tax paying homeowners .
Crime has been rising as well due to early release of prisoners .
Keep in mind that the big cities in TX are purple/blue politically. Small town TX isn't much different from the Rust Belt or Deep South.
