This month, reality was a $600 electricity bill that included late payments. An additional $350 for the mortgage, $45 for water, $300 for cellphones. Then $98 for cable television, $35 for Internet service, $315 for furniture bought on credit, $35 for car insurance and $60 for life insurance.
Kathy sat with a notepad that said “Live Like Your Life Depends On It” and did the math. Their monthly checks totaled $2,005 — $1,128 less than when the twins received benefits — and bills would consume all of it except $167. There wouldn’t be enough to whittle down her payday loans. Or to settle up with the school for her granddaughter’s cheerleading. Or to pay her lawyer for a divorce from her fourth husband.
Some people are truly disabled...the blind, the lame but this....I am sorry this is ridiculous.
$300 for cellphones? (I am sorry....I have issues with this - tax money should not go to pay three hundred dollar a month
cellphone bills...ridiculous - also $98 month for cable.....our tax dollars should not go to fund peoples overblown cell phones and cable bills...$315 a month on furniture??????????????Wtf? (When I was first married we bought 3 rooms of
furniture for 35 dollars a month?) I am sorry it's ridiculous for them to try to live like that, on eveyone else's dime.

Heck, they have THREE dogs. One of the photos showed all of them in their filthy living room.

What's the chances of any of those pets ever receiving vet care?

Life is cheap to people who have never been taught the value of anything.

With the WIC program, in order to get help you have to attend (or complete online) classes on nutrition, infant growth milestones and so forth.

Perhaps the same system could be used with other such programs.

The part I like is how we are also picking up the tab for a relative to clean the place up.

I suspect that "disability" has an arbitrary definition, like the definition of "poverty." Maybe it would help if it were re-defined.

They need to call Animal Cops! (like on Animal Planet) .....Come get those doggies and get them out of there before they get severe flea infestation and that costs money for the vet.....of which those pups will never see a veterinarian.

How do they have a $300 cell phone bill? Nobody works! ONE phone is all they need. (Walmart: $35 bucks a month plan) I see their insurance is $35 bucks a month, which means they likely only have liability insurance and if crazy mom gets in an accident, they won't have the type of insurance they need to fix the car.

What a mess!

Nasty counter piled high with junk! Cockroaches love to breed in those piles...

Since nobody works, what do they DO all day? I think they watch cable-TV...How about mom grab a broom and a trash can and get that stuff in the trash?

It first happened with immigrants from Europe coming to America. It then happened with many immigrants and their descendants going west. It occurred yet again earlier this century with many moving from areas such as the south to cities like Detroit and Chicago. It is currently happening now with many moving to booming cities. These people never sat back and did nothing but feel sorry for themselves. They did not wait for jobs to come to them. They moved to where the jobs were and sought them out. Many of these same people also valued education/training and obtained the skills which would help them get employment. Sadly, I do not see similar actions being taken in many of the struggling areas of the US. It seems many long for the jobs of the past which are now long gone and not returning. Many appear unwilling to adapt to the changing times.
Our tax dollars go to illegals which the government gives them a few thousand dollars to relocate in a different state.
Most Americans are brought up in a certain area and that is all they know. They cling to what they can and sometimes the men go off and look for work leaving the family in the home. On my travels there are men who work blue collar jobs and go where the work is. They don't make a ton of money but they try to survive with living expenses and saving and sending money home.

Some areas are just dead when it comes to getting a job. Most college kids have to relocate if they grew up in an area with corn stalks and dirt roads and pine trees for miles around.

If a person on disability can do stuff like stock shelves but the employer wants the shelves stocked in say 3 hours but it takes the disabled person a lot longer then the disabled person will still be unemployed. How is the person supposed to pay rent, utilities, buy food, etc. when the person is kicked off disability but still is unemployable by employer standards? Society is forcing people like me to be homeless and die in the streets or resort to crime for survival.

I was able to stock shelves, racks, etc. when I worked retail, but it took me nearly twice as long as other people due to the health problems. I was fired from every job. Wasn't my fault. I made myself physically ill trying to keep up with everyone else. I have no way to force anyone to hire and keep me nor can anyone else.
