Donald Trump has abdicated the throne. For over 70 years our allies and democratic countries the world over looked up to America. Their leaders automatically deferred to the President of the United States. Respect was part of that deference. When our president spoke, everyone listened.
But in a few short months, Donald Trump has destroyed all that. Democracies all over the world are saying it's time for a new leader. They are turning to Angela Merkel of Germany and Emmanuel Macron of France to fill the void since Trump abdicated the throne.

I'm sure ceding economic might to the Chinese will help bring back jobs in the Rust Belt...maybe if we decline far enough China will outsource cheap non skilled labor back to us...so win???
People may long for the isolationist policies of the pre-WWII era, but our economy was in the tank then. The 1920s seemed fine but they were a massive bubble and there is no overstating the misery most Americans had to endure during the 1930s.
The Andy Griffith Show painted such a perfect picture of that era though.
I think one of the big problems with the conservative mindset is that want to return our country to a time that never actually existed. Few people who lived back then remain alive today and most people's perception of the "golden age" is through reruns of popular TV shows of the era, which of course painted it as a picture perfect utopia.
All his supporters have left is MAGA and "But Obama!" and "But Hilary!" His behavior is certainly not their fault, but still, they can't accept the fact that Donny is cray cray.

The United States was able to take advantage of a once in a lifetime situation in which every major industrial competitor had been hit with a catastrophe all at once. Anyone that thinks the post WWII era US economy was the result of some kind of inherent American greatness is delusional.
