Because they highlighted that he is anti-gay, pro gun and voted to pass the House's health bill that even Trump called mean? None of that changed because he was in the hospital and he probably hasn't changed any of his positions so what is the problem?

Many are troubled by the truth.
While the Congressman's positions do nothing to excuse the gunman's actions, if people insist on making it a right/left issue rather than the act of a mentally ill person that it is, then let's look at the entire left/right issue.

BobNJ1960 answered this well, so I'll basically just second his response. This isn't the time. I find it very distasteful to read about his position on health care somehow justifying this attack.

Here's the thing, it was/is a Democrat/Republican issue as evidenced by the targets he chose and the hit list found in his pocket. Was he operating under some kind of derangement? Most certainly.
Was he egged on by the constant barrage of hate/insults/diatribes by Democrat politicians and talking heads/entertainers or was it the "protesters" that rioted at Berzerkely and elsewhere with tacit approval of local government/LEO's? At this point, who knows.
The thing I can say is he didn't get to that worked up state on his own...

Of course he got to that "worked up state on his own".
He slipped over the edge from rationality to irrationality, and the irrationality took over.
