When people first started discussing "fake news" during the campaign, I was very glad that people were finally talking about it. It's been a big problem for a long time, especially since the rise of social media.

However, today it seems like people are quick to consider anything that challenges their existing beliefs as "fake news" regardless of it's truth. If you are Trump supporter for instance, anything that paints Trump in a less than positive light is automatically fake news. It doesn't matter if there is any truth to it or not. If it's not sucking up to Trump, it's fake. The result is a society where there is no longer such thing as truth. Everyone has their own truth and if they believe something, it's true for them regardless of it's factual reality. This is a big problem. We are officially a society that denies facts in favor of feelings and emotions.

it works to the advantage of Trump, Trumpers Alt Rights, Putin etc...

They need it, to weaken the impact of the Media exposing Trump's lies and misdeeds.

Yay more banning of words because we, as a society, are too lazy to find out about things on our own, and should just take MSM's word for everything with the news.

Good idea!

That was sarcasm, OP. But it sounds like you don't even know what "fake news" even is, yet alone, you want to ban the term.

Stop trying to kill free speech might be more in line with who we are as Americans.

I always hear some politician telling us who we are, or are not, as Americans. Never thought I'd get a chance to do it myself.

Thanks OP

I do know what "fake news" is. It's anything that comes from a source other than Fox, Breitbart, Alex Jones, or Sean Hannity's radio show.

Well, first you have to understand the rules to know how it works. If it is news that is critical of Donald Trump, it is "fake news". If it is something positive about Donald Trump, it is NOT fake news.

Once you understand the rules of the game it is so much easier.

This sums it up completely.

see how quick the Right wingers are to defend the phrase, they love it. they know it is a lie, they know CNN is a reputable service and respected worldwide, but they also know Trump is a liar and that his whole crew are being exposed.

Trump needs to damage the media because it is the media that is exposing his crimes.

I think it is a dangerous phrase. Many of us, including me, use it in jest, but I believe it is too easy for it to be used as an excuse for things you don't agree with and not actual unsubstantiated news.

Basically, everything can become fake news if you want it to be.
