Well, to be fair academics contribute quite a bit to the US, and the world for that matter, as far as the sciences go. The issue, from my limited political perspective, is that someone/thing will rise to the top. Whether it's corporate, individual dictatorship, government, etc it will happen (now i suppose it's corporate) and we really should collectively manage it for our collective interests. I don't know what the solutions are.

Many will probably call that socialism.

Six years ago Bernie said Venezuela and Argentina realized the "American Dream". Now look at these countries....socialist hell on earth for their citizens.

American socialists are so clueless and dangerous to our way of life.....
So, explain Canada, Australia, and northern Europe, then. You know, those countries that are consistently ranked among the top of the heap globally for important QOL factors. They're also consistently reported to be among the happiest.

Let's clear something up: there's a difference between true socialism and social democracy. A big difference. I really wish people would learn this, because they sound so clueless when they throw around the word "socialist."

For the love of God, turn off that Fox "News"!

Bernie Sanders didn't pick "Canada, Australia, and northern Europe" as examples of the "American Dream" realized. Six years ago the democratic socialist picked Venezuela, Argentina, and Ecuador as his "American Dream" ideals.

These days, the American dream is more apt to be realized in South America, in places such as Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina, where incomes are actually more equal today than they are in the land of Horatio Alger.

You said "American socialists are so clueless and dangerous to our way of life." Please be more specific. What policies do American "socialists" espouse that would undermine America and her way of life? How do those policies differ from those of other countries you guys love to call "socialist," but that, remarkably, function better than the US does in some important aspects?

I've lived in the US for 20 years and haven't met a socialist yet. Lived in Canada for 30 years before that - never knew a socialist.

Who and where are all these "socialists"?

Capitalism only works for so long then it has to be heavily regulated.

The basic core principles of capitalism are very simple, the person with the best lemonade stand sells the most lemonade and makes the most money.

However we all know in the U.S. there's 100 other things complicating that basic system.

Just for starters you have to factor in the world economy and world banking system, the tax code, the internet, and the ability of the richest companies such as Amazon to undercut their prices so much that they take a loss, just to put other companies out of business.

Venezuela is in an unprecedented economic collapse, due to precisely the redistributionist programs that Sanders had sited and espoused as his model for the U.S. economy and his presidency.

Argentina, another of Sander's economic role models, is a country with immense natural and industrial wealth that has seen the economy stripped in less than a decade due to the leftist government's corruption and mismanagement. https://www.forbes.com/sites/nathani.../#ca4325f74a23

As to who "all these socialists" are? The Bernie Bros and Sisters, millionaires like Moore, Penn, Belafonte, Glover and political figures like West and Sanders, among others.

Our decentralized Crony Capitalism is not doing as well because it has eliminated most of the risk involved in investment. At least they think so. These financial manipulators have lost track of the idea that wealth is created by farming, manufacturing and mining. It is only transferred from its creators to the manipulators by the corrupt money men. The employees that created the wealth are simply left behind as jobs are eliminated by transferring them to the Communist Chinese or replacing people with machines. Both of these impoverish the people tat are supposed to buy the products. Ignoring that is foolish.
China has a capitalist and crony capitalist market but a dictatorship government.

communism ghost has left the country a long time ago.

Because socialism and communism "sound" fair. When everybody is equally poor, they are also equally rich.

You're talking about ignorant people who have a romantic ideal of socialism and refuse to listen to every single person who has ever come from a socialist country. Same goes for communism. I've known people who got out of communist countries. Their stories are horrible the way that they were treated...including being physically beaten for the simplest of things. These pie in the sky idiots surround themselves with an echo chamber and while they pretend to have real world experience, they have little to none.

Venezuela is coming apart because of heavy-handed Socialism. Yes, the same political system the Bernie fans and many on this board seem to want.

It's nearing the time when the Righteous confront the Left and other adherents of this species of government.

Talk with your co-workers. Talk to others at parties. Find out where your neighbors stand poltically. Be known in your community. Qualify those around you the same way the Hollywood-Media Left does. No more Mr Nice Guy.

Any thoughts?
