(I will use a pretty broad definition of the word young----as adulthood becomes more and more delayed, I guess it's okay to call 35 and under "young"). So many of them think that it's cool to be an anarchist or cultural Marxist/communist. Most have never thought about it too much and don't understand things too well--but they've decided in some manner that those two paths are pretty cool.
They also rarely come right out and say "this is what I am", but their words regularly reveal where they stand and what they think. And I am talking about a HUGE chunk of that age group, across all cohorts and categories.
Given this reality, America is dead as a successful society. One little nudge, and over the cliff she goes.
I've never really noticed this. Could it just be the location you're focused on or the people that you're around?
I ask this because you mentioned experiencing a very leftist university and city, and if you go to some areas, especially the rural South and Midwest, much of the population are extremely right wing, including many of the younger people in the 35 and under age group.
Well you said "The young in America." If you think every young person in America is a cultural Marxist, then I can understand why you lost all of your hypothetical college debates.
You can't even properly debate your "argument" in the OP. Given your history of lack of substance/facts, I doubt very much you participated in school debates -- yet alone attended grad school. Or if I'm mistaken, you are free to post your real name or include a link to some of your social networking sites and we can have a look.
Why are you rushing to make this personal?? Hmmmmm????
If only I had a dollar for each time I posted something online which didn't fit some leftist's neat little narrative, and thus received the mind-numbingly-predictable challenge: "I don't believe you did (or are) that".
It's become commonplace now in leftist arguing, and it's infantile.

If you noodle around online a fair amount, you get great cross-sectional representation. And since it is often anonymous, you often people's real feelings.

Democrats are not leftists, Marxists, socialists, pinkos, etc. Most folks in the US have no idea what a real leftist represents or even looks or acts like. I seriously doubt they have ever debated politics with a true Marxist, member of the Communist Party, or even a left leaning European - all of whom might more properly be called "leftist".
Most young people just want a more equitable distribution of societal benefits - just like they did in the 60s/70s

I'm just out of your "young" category, but if I had to base the future of the country on the way my friends and I acted when we were young, I'd be worried too. Fortunately, they're going to figure out who they are, what they want to be, what kind of world they want to live in, and stand poised to be the most successful generation of Americans there has ever been. The technology and creativity that is being generated right now is mind blowing.

Your last statement could be applied to the rednecks who put Trump in office.

I'm not sure where this was coming from in reference to my post as I never mentioned anything about Marxists or Communists. This was the OP's statement.
Who raised them? If you don't like the "young" in America put blame where it belongs.. Who raised their parents? Put blame where it belongs.
Me? I don't always understand the next generation, but I recognize a more compassionate open minded people. That isn't a bad thing.
