I understand your trepidation about going to China. I feel the same way because things seem so crazy right now, but I refuse to let anything stop me from doing what I want (as long as I have the resources ).
I figure a quick death in a foreign country due to political fallout is probably better than a slow death in bed due to disease. Lost both my folks that way, I don't want to repeat that. Lust for life is a good thing to have. Risk pays off more often than not.

Costa Rica is a fabulous destination, I need to get back there myself.

I was just there in May. I went to La Fortuna, and I fell in love with it. (I have amazing pictures of Arenal Volacano!) I'm going back to La Fortuna in December with a stop in Tamarindo.
There are lots of other forums on this website. Many very informative.
I watch old Britcoms on youtube when I can. Trouble is they get quickly taken down so it's like playing the lottery. You might get lucky and catch a really funny one.

I spent two nights at Arenal, the sounds of those flaming boulders hitting the hillside and rolling down (it was in full eruption mode) was the best part. We were as close to the volcano as they would let you stay. I absolutely love Costa Rica. Have a great time!

People need to see as much of Europe as quickly as possible before the culture is destroyed by migrants. I'm so glad I saw the 'natives' in their natural habitat decades ago. The birthplace of Western civilization and culture. Wonderful experience -- I grew up fast after college traveling alone for months.
This happenedjust the other day. Multiply it hundreds of times and you will get a sense of the problem Europe is facing.
What do you do when you need a break from politics?
I read a book, or watch a historical documentary - you know, get away from the current crazy by watching the crazy from years past. Sort of like watching "Game of Thrones," without having to pay for HBO.
I read - fiction prior to 1940, especially 19th century novels.
And, yes, I totally agree with your comment about death.
