Fareed Zakaria did an excellent documentary about why Trump won, and how Trump was able to turn blue states red. He talked about Trump the showman and how adaptable he was in front of the camera. Con men are often great actors. He also talked about the reasons our country is so divided. Capitalism was one and how the middle class used to expand during periods of economic growth. That is no longer the case with jobs disappearing over seas. Trump capitalized on that with his build the wall mantra to keep the illegals out, and from them taking the jobs.

There is a cultural divide with large scale immigration. Hispanics and blacks advancing in society, gay rights and transgender rights are a threat to older white conservative America who fear cultural displacement. Then there is the partisan loyalty above country first.

He talked about the working class rebellion vs the elites, and how Hillary represented the elites. Trump was able to relate to the disenfranchised, while Hillary represented the status quo that was the crux of the discontent. It was patently clear that our government was broken and needed a drastic makeover. Trump in his brilliance saw this and was able to capitalize on it.

Communication was another avenue for Trump with the rise of fake news and alternative facts. People believe what they can relate to and believe what they want to believe. Facts and truth are rationalized away as fake news while alternative facts become gospel. Is anyone else concerned about the Sinclair Broadcast Group? Read about it and the Trump controlled FCC. It's chilling.

Trump was totally in tune with the frustration of the "unheard" voices and capitalized on it. It was brilliant, and it could have been amazing had he been an honorable person with the best interest of the people at heart.

Government has a role to serve, but it's funding comes from the private sector. When the private sector can no longer fund the ever growing government's extravagant tastes, we arrive to the point we are at today. And when things get out of hand, the public sector becomes a parasite which sucks the worth out of the private sector, until there is nothing left to take.

We've already saddled the next generation with debt they will struggle to pay off. How many more future generations do we want to destroy? Paying tomorrow for a hamburger today is one thing. Now we're expecting to pay for 100 hamburgers next century, without taking into account all the debt we will produce in that century. And for what purpose exactly? We should be looking to the next frontier, space. Instead, we're finding stupider ways to bankrupt future generations, which will spoil any big dreams they may hope to fulfill. They are going to hate us for it, and rightfully so.

With the attitudes and ideas being promoted today, America's future is bleak. Sadly, the lowest common denominator in any society has the potential to hold everyone down in this environment. It is not fair for my generation (millenials) and it will be even worse for future generations if these poor values (or lack thereof) are handed down.

I'm afraid that Americans are going to learn the hard way what previous generations were taught by their forefathers. You don't get something for nothing in this world. That includes prosperity. It is earned, as it always was before. Obama can talk about robots eliminating everyone jobs, but that's not the world we live in, yet anyhow. Prosperity still requires work ethic, commitment, learning, team work, etc.

It's sad to watch the trajectory that this nation is on. It's been going this way for quite a long time, yet democrats will insist Trump is to blame. He is not. He is merely a reaction from people who are fed up with it. He stands a far better chance of instilling real change, compared to a "community organizer", whatever the hell that is.
While I agree with much of what you said I have to remind you that the Current Congress and President are not going to change a thing concerning any of it, heck not only are they not trying to do so they are adding more debt to what we already have. Sooner or later this house of cards is going to fall, there really is no cure at this point other than to crash and crash Hard. Oh well, I can only suggest preparing for you and your own families security as best you can and try to weather the storm that will surely hit us all in the near future.

If/when it collapses, we will be presented with a once in a lifetime opportunity to rebuild a new world atop the ashes of the old. That which does not work is not worth preserving.

No matter what happens, I am prepared to roll up my sleeves and work hard, through thick and thin. I know there are plenty more out there who will do the same, and they will be rewarded first and foremost. No matter what, America will be fine. We are a nation with enormous reserves of resources, material wealth, knowledge and potential. Greedy parasites and incompetent government cannot rob us of everything, though they've been tirelessly working at it for awhile now.

Personally, I think it would be an opportunity for everyone to rediscover what the real wealth of nations is all about. It doesn't derive itself from fiat currency and debt, that much is for certain.

Americans possess a tremendous amount of work ethic, grit, and innovative capability. That cannot be taken from us. If there was a collapse, I would much rather be here than anywhere else, putting the pieces back together and working towards creating something that works.
