This is why smart persons get lawyered up and or otherwise do everything possible not to be "processed". Once your fingerprints are in the federal/FBI database life becomes more complicated.
Then again as military Manning's prints were likely on file already regardless of the arrest/conviction, no?

With the amount of media attention Chelsea received she couldn't enter unnoticed.
She has some serious convictions. You can't avoid being "processed". If you cross the border you are "processed". When you are arrested you are "processed". A lawyer can't do a damn thing about her situation. When you get fingerprinted it follows you for the rest of your life. Edited to add: unless you can get it expunged which often takes years and many more in Chelsea's case.
And all y'all need to stop with the transgender thing. She was denied entry because of her convictions, not because she's a transgender.
Major booboo on her part for even thinking she could just waltz on through to Canada. If she had half a brain she'd have requested asylum immediately at the border before presenting documents to enter if she really wanted to move there.
OTTAWA, Ontario — Chelsea Manning said Monday she was denied entry into Canada because of her criminal record in the United States.
The transgender woman was known as Bradley Manning when she was convicted in 2013 of leaking a trove of classified documents. She was released after serving seven years of a 35-year sentence, which was commuted by President Barack Obama in his final days in office.

Here in NYC NYPD along with four of the five DAs have stopped blindly following procedures where *everyone* arrested in put through the system/processed. They are going back to the old ways of issuing desk appearance tickets for "minor" offenses and so forth.
If you can get a good enough mouthpiece or whatever between time of arrest and before being taken in for processing, yes you can avoid fingerprinting. Of course much will depend upon the nature of crime allegedly committed.
One of the reasons African American and Latino/Hispanic males have issues with all sorts of things including finding employment is on average they have criminal records. But when you look at the arrest patterns/charges there are plenty of small low level offenses that whites often get a pass. Things like open container, weed (smoking or possessing small amounts), etc..
Are folks here really interested in discussing Canada's policies for allowing people with criminal convictions in other countries to enter, or is it just the usual suspects wanting to misgender Chelsea Manning for their own anti-transgender purposes?
