They're trying to shame Tillerson into leaving. Hasn't worked so far.
He'll leave. Tillerson screwed himself up as soon as he arrived when he started firing all the senior staff; the envoys and all the mid-level State Dept. folks who keep the daily routines going smoothly in our embassies all over the world.
Once he started traveling, he learned soon enough just how important they were. It was those folks who always knew how to get around in a foreign capital, knew the locals to talk to first, and could double as translators in a pinch. Some of them had been in the same embassy for many years.
Rex did grow into the job some, though. I have to give him some credit.
But growing into the job always means the Secretary of State is going to disagree with the President; that comes with the job. And we all know what happens when someone disagrees with Trump.
So one way or another, Tillerson was doomed. He will go gratefully. I'm sure returning to the oil business will be a very great relief for him.
It's gonna be interesting to watch his replacement. The guys in the CIA don't take any crap from anybody, and they don't up and quit when things get rough. Trump may not find the new guy nearly as malleable as Rex Tillerson.
I think a person from the CIA will foster more distrust in many foreign countries. They think the CIA is an organization the US uses for its criminal activities and support of foreign despotism.
It wouldn't surprise me if Trump tries to close down the entire state department because he really doesn't understand jack-squat about the role they play and he sees no value in working with other countries. Once a bully, always a bully.

Was firing them his choice or Trump's though? I remember with the budget trump wanted 30% cuts to state. Tillerson went right along with it but I think it's on both of them.
He certainly comes across as more diplomatic than trump, but so does a chimpanzee. I never felt like he gave a rat's ass.

He said at least a couple of times, near the beginning, that his wife convinced him to take the job. His first thought of retirement after Exxon = spending time with his grandchildren on his ranch.

If Trump dumps Tillerson - is the "suicide pact" still in force?
I hope he writes a book about the insanity in this admin. It would probably be a best seller.
