Big deal. It's not a reduction in the US contribution. It is a cut in the UN budget and it amounts to only about 5% of the total.

Fine with me. Now let's follow suit with Trump's constant wasteful golf vacations at taxpayer expense, which he clearly told us he wouldn't do if elected as President. There should be no protest from conservatives on that, I'm sure.

I wish it was cut to zero but I'm glad they're cutting something.

The $3.3 billion must be divvied up among the hundreds of the countries who voted against the US. If that's too drastic, we could put the UN on a glide path to sustainability that they are so fond of. For every vote against the US position, they lose $100m. That should do it in about 33 votes.

As long as I've been alive I've heard people complaining about the UN. Now that Trump has taken action to address those complaints, they are wetting their pants. Some people just like to complain.

Wonderful, but that's only a good start.

I read the headline differently

Nikki Haley negotiates $285M cut in ‘bloated’ UN budget

I thought the UN cut their OWN budget, that's why I didn't get too excited. What's Nikki doing managing UN budget?

Now lets take back the other 7.7 billion. The UN does very little for the United States and the waste is astounding.

A step in the right direction! You cut enough to send a message initially, but not all so that you have no more leverage going forward. If the UN continues to get out of line and go against our interests and the interests of the sole democracy in the Middle East, let's cut additional funding.
