Pay increases should happen but will take time to realize the money and get it distributed as earned.
How much time would that be? American Airlines currently does not pay federal taxes due to past losses.
"Both carriers said they will make the payments to workers this quarter. The bonuses will total $130 million for American, which doesn’t currently pay cash federal taxes because of past financial losses."
As noted in above article look at who is giving out these bonuses and then go up the food chain. Companies know they have to do *something* to help make the still unpopular GOP tax plan "work" or at least more palatable to the American electorate otherwise there will be consequences and repercussions.
Giving bonuses is rather easy and causes nothing more than a one time charge against earnings. Wage increases however are far more permanent and thus reflected in stock prices and so forth.
It is amazing how many are willing to be distracted by a shiny bauble, meanwhile they are being diddled.
Leftists and Trump Deranged still trying to tell us that cutting taxes on the middle class or anyone who works for a living is bad bad bad. They want to tell us that getting bonuses as a result of those Tax cuts are bad.
Is it any wonder so many American companies have gone off shore, or kept profits off shore. Such bitter pettiness from those on the left.
Oh, and your basic accounting comments? Of course, shareholders of which there 10s of thousands via 401k, 403b, sep Ira, public and private pensions expect good management of their investments. Simple capitalism. Be an owner.
Such sullen pettiness.

Wow, so generous. BTW one of the last quarters I've seen for AA the profit was something like 1.5 billion. EMployee number 130 thousand.
I also wonder what fraction of the upcoming HC premiums increase would a 1000 bucks cover. The mandate is gone so now somebody else ( I wonder who that is) will foot the bill.
I would imagine most if not all American Airlines employees are full-time which means they are offered health insurance through their employer. That is until that part of the healthcare law is struck down too...
