I didnt even know Motel 6 was still around. What a country we are

"Washington’s attorney general sued Motel 6 on Wednesday, alleging the national budget chain disclosed the private information of thousands of its guests to U.S. immigration authorities in violation of the state consumer-protection law.

Attorney General Bob Ferguson said motel employees divulged the names, birth dates, driver’s license numbers, license-plate numbers and room numbers of at least 9,150 guests to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents without a warrant."

That's what Motel 6 is supposed to do. "See something; say something."

So they violated the privacy rights of nearly 9200 people to detain 6 people in the general vicinity. I guess some will see this as OK.

This stuff will only stop when state and city officials are arrested and perp-walked for breaking federal law by harboring illegal aliens.

ICE in my city (AZ) have been doing this for years at Motel 6 locations, and continues to do it even after the September incident when they found out employees were giving out guest info. A lot of drug dealings, shootings and illicit actives happen at Motel 6 locations. I'm glad my city isn't a sanctuary city.

The fines sought total up over $18M, that would probably break a budget company.

Think about it, if a federal agency requests information, do you have a duty to provide it? They may have thought they did which is why they cooperated. This puts a company in a predicament.

I've worked for Hilton and Marriott, both had a "no warrant, no information" policy.

I mean, if they won't even connect your call if you don't have guest's name, then why would they be ok with giving information to the police? The police can do their own recon, run plates, watch parking lots, etc

If the article is accurate they were handing over the entire guest list.
