Trump is destroying everything good about this country. And his supporters are cheering him on because they don't care as long as they can stick it to the libs and get their revenge for the "suffering" they experienced because of the Obergefell decision. What an absolutely despicable time in American history we are living through.
It's more than this I think...
People get very emotional and egotistical about their political views, who and what they are for or against. Once invested in someone like Trump, for example, in the way so many Trump supporters have expressed quite publicly and emphatically in this forum, their ego and political bias later prevents them from considering all going on around them in any sort of objective manner. They are like someone who invested in their favorite company and simply can't bring themselves to cut their losses no matter how much the value of the stock goes down and no matter how bad the future of that company begins to look. We are emotional beings after all, and all too often emotion tends to get the better of us.
Once that "investment" with all-in ego happens, coupled with the hard line ideological differences that make some Americans view other Americans as "unAmerican," forget about the sort of rationale that might help us correct course, prevent further damage, maybe make some better progress. There are those who view Trump and all things Trump as "making America great again," while others still wonder what that even means.
Still no better health care plan, still too many people close to poverty while all that wealth stays in the hands of 1 percent, still no sense of order or coordination in the White House, to get things done. Still the problem of unaffordable quality education, student debt, while the "American dream" gets all the more dim for our next generation. They worry about the planet they'll inherit while Trump thinks only about the next "deal," as if the environment really doesn't factor in any deal. (China stopped accepting our trash BTW). As if our national debt doesn't matter either. I could go on but again why bother?
Not sure how "despicable" a time this is for America compared to many a difficult time past, but Trump sure seems to promote despicable as far as lots of Americans are concerned while Trump's supporters seem to view the same "despicable" as something else entirely. Might be exactly what we get when access to quality education becomes all the more difficult for average Americans who later go on to view institutions of higher education as some sort of "elitist" breeding ground for "enemies of the people."
OP, how you like Trump on those stock markets now?
(maybe gloating about short-term positive market movements on behalf of Trump wasn't such a good idea, was it?)
Good question.
Quite a few of us have taken pleasure in throwing it in the OP's face, one of the biggest thread backfires I've seen on the internet in quite a while LOL.
President Trump has been asking his advisors if they think the tariffs he's levied against China are causing the market's unrest over the past two months.
Trump craters the stock market - Dow drops 600 points, now below 25,000
Governments are usually thoughtful and cautious about what they say - but Trump's brain-farts, falsehoods and contradictions on on trade are cratering the stock market.
