I agree. Plus all the law enforcement on motorcycles that I am aware of throughout Ca are using BMW's now instead of Hogs. The BMW model I'm aware of that they are using is the BMW R1200RT-P. The BMW R1200RT is the technical number. They add the "P" to the ones used in law enforcement, which I'm guessing stands for "Patrol" or "Police", or "Pursuit". I can't really be sure.

I have to agree. Where I live, I see very few Harleys on the road. Those I do see are normally older men and women.

Interesting.

Default Corporate tax cuts lead to layoffs and offshore Harley-Davidson Motorcycles.

Unreal!
They give these money hoarders a HUGE tax cut, 33% to 21% and tell us it's so they can save jobs.
Harley is now laying off American workers and opening a plant overseas!!
They DID however take the money saved as profit and gave a corporate dividend.

TRICKLE DOWN DOES NOT WORK....
How many examples of this voodoo economic bs do we need?

When rich people, who have no interest in America, get a tax break... THEY KEEP IT!

Can't wait for the Fox news repub-splanation! Must be the unions!

Wrong.

Harley has failed to produce a product that appeals to a younger and more diverse market.
Doesn't have anything to do with unions.

Poor marketing lack of research and development, catering to a literal dying market, and over priced mass produced product = fail.

They had their chance at doing some good with Eric Buell.

Pot belly, beards, leather, doesn't appeal to 20-30 somethings.
Lack of a sport, sport touring, enduro/dual puprose, street fighter, clinging to geezer glides couches with 2 wheels priced 15-30k isn't going to cut it.

They'll fold in time if they don't change their direction.

Why it matters: Now, executives of big U.S. companies suggest that the days of most people getting a pay raise are over, and that they also plan to reduce their work forces further.

Here are their sales for the year.

See their taxes? You think with decreased demand, decreased profits, they should still be at 39.6%?

In 2016, approximately 335,800 units of on-highway motorcycles and almost 90,000 units of off-highway motorcycles were sold to customers in the United States. The Honda Motor Corporation, is one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the United States and worldwide. Between the fiscal year of 2012 and the fiscal year of 2018, Honda’s annual motorcycle sales in North America have increased by around 113,000 units. Much of this success can be attributed to the effective advertisement and consequently the high number of sales. From 2011 to 2012, Honda’s global advertising expenditure increased to around 300 million U.S. dollars.
Wonder if Honda is capturing a market that Harley is ignoring?

Let's see what sales looked like for others...

Quote:
Yamaha Motor Corp.‘s U.S. motorcycle sales dropped more than 5% in the full fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2017, according to the OEM’s earnings report, however global motorcycle sales are on the rise.

U.S. motorcycle sales declined to 52.7 billion yen ($489.6 million USD), as compared to 55.9 billion yen ($519.3 million USD) at the same time the year prior. Meanwhile, unit sales declined 9% year over year to 70,000 units.

While the manufacturer reported a decrease in motorcycle sales in the U.S. market, unit sales across the entire business were approximately 5.4 million units, up 4.6% as compared to the year prior, which Yamaha said is the highest year-over-year increase since 2011
Suzuki investor relations is in a downloadable PDF it shows a small increase in America but HUGE increase in Asia...
Perhaps Harley is trying to move in on the Asian rim and pick up Asia for now as they can't move half the numbers Honda can...

BMW and Ducati are gaining sales in North America.

Could it be they offer something Harley doesn't?

Strange how all of these foreign companies can capture more of the market than Harley yet it's tax cuts that are responsible for Harley shutting down domestic manufcaturing...
I'd say, no... more like failed marketing and not putting a desirable and affordable product to market.

Any other socialist economists want to take a crack at why Harley is failing, without blaming Trump and/or trickle down?

That or like in Quebec, the insurance rates as well as the plateshack prices for motorcycles and I don't mention how bad the roads are here. There's a joke who said once you cross the border, going out of Quebec to Ontario/New York/New England/New Brunswick, you feel like if you have a new car instead of a cluncker, lol.
