This is entirely consistent with what happened. A garbage truck tried to beat the train and didn't make it.

Why try to make it into some sort of conspiracy?

Or possibly an idiot driver who tried to beat the train across and didn't make it. It happens.

And the engineer didn't even try to apply the brakes? Was the engineer even looking forward when the train came into view of the crossing, with a truck on the tracks? It apparently happened during morning daylight, no fog.

Who's doing that?

That and hopefully nothing more.

Who's doing that?
A garbage truck illegally tried to jump the tracks and got hit by the Train.

You are trying to create conspiracy where there is none. Why not show some compassion for the dead and wait for the investigation?

We don't know yet why the truck was on the tracks, but not all rail crossings are marked as well as they should be.
This crossing was apparent it is a RR crossing

Unless some evidence is presented that proves it was Amtrak's fault, my guess is some the driver foolishly tried to cross the tracks in spite of the approaching train, and didn't make it.

"Anything more" like what?

From the pictures shown on TV, there were the standard big white wooden X sign marked "Railroad Crossing" at the crossing, and the usual large red lights, which I assume were flashing as the train approached. I didn't see an mechanical crossing gates. Maybe they were smashed in the crash, or maybe there never were any. Maybe the truck driver did try something dumb.

But why on Earth didn't the engineer put on the brakes? Even if he didn't have enough distance to stop, he could have slowed the train and reduced the impact somewhat.

There were 200 members of congress on that train, I'm not saying that this was foul play, but you can't rule it out under the circumstances.

Its interesting that this happens right as we are heading into uncharted territory with the memo about to be released.

Umm, I'm the only one here who has NOT mentioned Republicans or Democrats, or conspiracies.

Perhaps you should be directing your accusations at others, maybe?
