Trump didn't "flip" -- every veteran of a simple exposure to the rules of diplomacy, even as an undergraduate-- understands the art of a small concession, followed by drawing a line and standing your ground until the other side responds with a quid pro quo. The ball is in Kim's court, and the next move is up to him, but don't make excuses for Rocket Boy's obsession with keeping his deadly playthings.
But Obama apparently didn't, or didn't want to acknowledge this -- which is why North Korea pocketed our assistance -- then spat in our faces (which is just fine with their apologists and low-key allies over in the Great Lefty Playpen).

NK will eat Donnie alive and screw USA.
Donnie is unprepared, has no advisors he is unwilling to listen to others. He listens to what he thinks wants to hear.
What talks? Sarah Sanders announced today: "They have made some major promises. They have made promises to denuclearize. They have made promises to stop nuclear and missile testing," Sanders said. "We're not going to have this meeting take place until we see concrete actions that match the words and the rhetoric of North Korea."
A reporter thinking she misspoke asked her to clarify whether she meant to say "They have made promises to TALK ABOUT denuclearizing," but she said no.

Sanders' comments appeared to realign the White House's position with the one senior administration officials had laid out in the days before Trump stunned the world by agreeing to meet face-to-face with Kim.
I'd been criticizing Trump for being so impetuous then read an account describing how Moon opposed conservative elements within the Korean political establishment to court both Kim and Trump. Lord knows, the S. Koreans have much to lose.
Going from "agreeing to meet without preconditions" to "agree to meet if you denuclearize" which they have refused to do for last 30 year, is a pretty clear case of flip.
Trump shot off his mouth and got excited and then his advisers had to explain to him why he can’t do that.

Again, he agreed to meeting yesterday without any preconditions. Something that rookies do. He gave away the position.
When Obama mentioned possiblity of discussions with preconditions, Fox News was accusing him of being soft.
When Trump actually did agree to meeting without any conditions, right wing is cheering, because of course!

He plays president without being one.
So what's your position? You want him to meet with Kim or not?
I thought this was understood, that NK has agreed to no new tests while meeting with Trump. Shrug. I think this may be a restatement of the agreement, but with Trump trying to look tough for his base.
Honestly, I don't care. I can't imagine North Korea making a deal that is workable. We HAD a deal before-they violated it. They've repeatedly demonstrated we cannot trust their word.
Trump is wasting his time. Not because Trump can't make a deal, but because the group on the other side of the deal cannot be trusted to keep their agreement. And I can't see any agreement that would work without that trust.
It's just grandstanding from Kim. He will smile for photos with the Donald, then demand America pulls out of South Korea, and no more war games off the Korean coast. When Donald says no, he will go back, and carry on polishing his missiles. Total waste of time.
There are 75,000 employees at the US State Department. Every single Secretary has Asst Secretaries that are in charge of divisions. How did you not know any of that? The Asst Secretary of Asian Affairs is one of the really important ones. India, Japan, China, N & S Korea .... just to name a few in their portfolio.
As for the Korean Ambassador - he quit the minute that he learned Talks were taking place between North & South Korea last week ...... and that President Trump was going to be asked to join in.
It's pretty stunning to hear from all these Pundits (CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC) almost cheering on Rocket Man, and running down the President on these coming talks.
I guess they think nuclear attacks are a Joke. Sick, Sick People.
It's the senior US envoy to N. Korea who retired a week ago; Trump still hasn't appointed an ambassador to S. Korea.

The special envoy's authority to engage with North Korea appeared to be undercut by a tug-of-war between the White House and State Department over North Korea policy under Trump.
"He was skeptical and wary of the White House's hard-line approach toward North Korea from the beginning," a senior South Korean official told Reuters, requesting anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
Another senior South Korean official said Yun had "run out of steam" amid tension between the White House, which has been carrying out its "maximum pressure" campaign against North Korea, and the State Department, which supported Seoul's efforts to re-engage Pyongyang.
Yun, a strong advocate of engagement with North Korea, has been arguing in favor of dialogue with Pyongyang during the last year of increased tensions. ... Still, his efforts to promote dialogue with North Korea have been stymied by a president who has threatened to rain “fire and fury” on the North Korean leader, whom Trump has derided as “little rocket man.”
