These people are confusing the "deep state" with the "fat state". You know the place where all the leaks come from: the Offal Office and Trump's various orifices.
If fat shaming the state is your thing then smaller government sounds like a desirable solution.
This result, if accurate, reflects the power of propaganda.
The adage that something repeated often enough becomes true in people's minds applies here. The repetition of a lie makes it seem plausible over time.
It doesn't actually have to be a bald-faced lie either, just a suspicion or a speculation, repeated as if fact, will suddenly seem true to people who are not accustomed to verifying the sources of information.
It is actually this tendency in people that Russians in their Project Lakhta, and the Cambridge Analytica folks were able to hoodwink so many. It is actually the business model of Alex Jones.
People want to trust their sources ... people get 'groomed' like teenagers, except that instead of sex it is opinions and votes they are after.
There is no deep state in the USA, just the Civil Service protected by law from political influence since 1871, and certain interests campaigning to break that protection down with lies.
You omitted the best part. Most of the people have never heard of the 'deep state.'
"...Pollsters also found that a majority of those polled, 63 percent, said they were “not familiar” with the term deep state, however. Thirteen percent said they were “very familiar,” while 24 percent said they were “somewhat familiar...”
And one more stat--50% of the country has below average intelligence.
The claims of anti-Trumpers that there is no deep state ring hollow.
the phrase "deep state" is not well-defined.
the U.S. Government is filled with various sub-organizations of varying degrees of autonomy and transparency, who range from liberal to conservative. Sometimes these groups drag their heels in implementing, and/or oppose outright, the directives given to them from Congress, the President, or the Supreme Court.
Trump himself, when he disregards existing directives from the legislative or judicial systems, is acting as part of the "rogue deep state." The U.S. president is not a dictator or supreme leader as some of y'all like to pretend.
If that's the "deep state" then yes it exists.
