Congress needs a 10-20 year plan to get the budget under control and it needs to be based on concrete numbers with shared suffering, not some increase in GDP pipe dream.
The OMB just indicated that interest on debt will exceed the Defense Budget in 5 years, they have some work ahead.
Never going to happen. The USA has passed a tipping point in cooperation. We used to be able "to come together" to solve a massive problem. No longer. Anyone tries to take away the candy store is going to get mocked, ridiculed, lied about, and trashed by the fascist left wing.
His entire schtick was such an obvious lie that it's hard to believe anyone who's even vaguely aware of reality could actually buy the BS he peddles.
He's not a policy wonk. He's not a fiscal conservative. He's not out to protect the little guy. He wants you believe all those things, but his time in office shows him to be just another fact-challenged ultra-selfish person there solely to benefit the wealthy and well-connected.
agree & good riddance!
David & Charles Koch are furious:
Quote:
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In a fit of pique, David and Charles Koch have unceremoniously listed House Speaker Paul Ryan for sale on the auction site eBay.
The Kochs, who reportedly had purchased Ryan for a sum estimated in the tens of millions, now seem likely to lose their entire investment.
According to Ryan’s listing on the auction site, the Kochs set a five-hundred-dollar asking price for the used congressman, a figure that, in light of the tepid bidding for him, seems optimistic.
“Granted, owning Paul Ryan doesn’t have the benefits that it’s had for David and Charles for all of these years, but the status of owning a former Speaker of the House has to be worth something,” one Koch associate said. “Certainly more than the current high bid of seventeen dollars.” ...
Ryan is damaged goods, he will find his way somewhere probably as a lobbyist and do quite well. He was a product of the Tea Party "take back our country" movement back in 2008, never had a real plan as we have seen but was a thorn in Obama's side for 8 years. Then the unimaginable happened and they took control of congress and the presidency, he reminds me of a 70 year old man chasing a 20 year old woman who finally catches her and cant figure out the next step.
Balanced budget, get rid of Obama Care and cut entitlements was all just a dream. Congress needs a 10-20 year plan to get the budget under control and it needs to be based on concrete numbers with shared suffering, not some increase in GDP pipe dream.

Republicans had a moment to actually get something useful done and wasted it on a failed attempt to repeal the ACA and corporate tax cuts. It was painful to watch.
I think at this point we are past the point of no return and will need to default one way or another - either explicitly or if we don't do that a bout of severe inflation will eventually do it for us. You can't keep running deficits this deep forever and the debt is larger than the GDP.
The fact that the Koch brothers have lost their bought and paid for Speaker of the House with no return on investment makes seeing this parasite running for the exit all that much sweeter.
I would have greatly preferred that Ryan hadn't turned-tail and abandoned his position. I would have liked to see him run for reelection and be soundly defeated by a democrat. For a speaker of the house, being defeated in his bid for reelection, would be a great humiliation. It happened to a democrat from the State of Washington, a few years ago and it shook up things all through the party.
But Ryan knew what a disaster this fall's election would be for republicans and especially for one who is so despised by so many. I guess he will miss out on his dream of being able to cancel Social Security for his own mother and everyone else. And we will hopefully miss the disaster that would occur, if he was able to weasel into the Presidency, through the back door. Bear in mind, that if anything removed Trump and Pence from office, as late as Dec. 31, 2018, he would become president, until Jan. 20th, 2021.
It makes no difference to me. The result is the same; Ryan is history and anyone with an iota of sense knows he's leaving not for personal reasons, but because he sees the looming GOP disaster that is the midterms. Ryan wants no part of it, so he's jumping ship.
Ryan is a coward just like most republicans in congress. Instead of standing up to Trump for the good of our country, they are leaving office
We need a political cartoon showing Ryan sitting at Trump's feet, grinning stupidly as Trump pats him on the head and gives him a treat for being such a good little lapdog. And McConnell can be sitting on his other side.
The GOP owns Donald Trump, and I hope the country never lets them forget it. And like the cowards the are, they are going to protect Mueller so he does their dirty work for them.
I have no respect for somebody who eschews wanting to gut medicare for the elderly and give them worthless vouchers instead.
Of course he will never have to worry about that !
Good riddance Hypocrite!
But we are supposed to respect Obama who purposely excluded himself and his buddies in Washington from Obamacare.

Don't blame Obama. Congress has always had different healthcare from the rest of the country.
