You put the arm rest down and hold your ground. They'll be the one asking for the attendant.

I has been 12 years or so since I last entered a plane. But I remember that when buying my ticket, they asked several things, like food preference. So, airlines might also ask for passengers' weight so that they can put low weights next to high weights if you get what I mean.
And they should not use individual seats, but benches with vertically slidable armrests, which would allow for flexible seating.

I'm 5'10 and 125 lbs. The seats are plenty roomy by width, but there is no leg room.

I remember one flight where the person in front of me catapulted their seat all the way back, slamming into my knees. That creature mumbled "I hate fat people" loudly enough for me to clearly hear.

I'm so sorry lady, maybe if I eat more salads my femurs will magically shorten.

A solution might be to start putting grossly overweight passengers in the cargo hold . They could sprawl out all they want and no one would complain.

I heard a rumor that Air China will start to charge passengers according to their weight.

Same in Chinese trains:

I think a better solution would be for the obese person to purchase 2 tickets, or switch to Business class.

Those are very expensive solutions though. So many people are so fat, yet airline don't offer extra-wide economy class seats. Why not?? Why not make large, no-frills seats available at a moderately higher price?

I don't recall who posted this, or whether it was posted here or in the Aviation forum, but someone on c-d brings a clipboard and slides it between the seats to ensure his space isn't encroached upon.

I put up with just about anything without complaint since it's all temporary, but that's one solution for people who are truly bothered by space invasion.

Because that will mean fewer seats overall, which will make each one more expensive. It's not fair to the rest of us just because some people feel entitled to be fat.
