Interesting:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...nce-statistics

Murders might have spiked in other countries but murders per 100,000 are far greater in America AND the portion of those murders committed with a firearm are growing.

Americans are 25 times more likely to be murdered by a firearm than citizens of any other developed country.

Next up.....over 400,000 firearms are stolen PER YEAR in the U.S. Holy Moly!!

And so on, and so on.......

Uh huh.

Notes: The Crime Prevention Research Center is a nonprofit founded in 2013 by John Lott, author of the book “More Guns, Less Crime.” He is best known as an advocate in the gun rights debate, particularly his arguments against restrictions on owning and carrying guns. Lott’s work has been called “junk science” as he has been accused of accepting funding from the National Rifle Association. Lott denies this claim. Any claims made on this website need to be fact checked with credible sources. (9/2/2016) Updated (4/5/2017)

Such blanket statements are ridiculous. Where I live perhaps 90% of homes have guns, the crime rate is minimal and the murder rate is 0 going back decades. If we were to adjust for population there should of been handful of murders based on national averages.

On the other hand in the most violent neighborhoods in this country have the lowest rates of legal gun ownership. Would higher rates of legal gun ownership decrease that? I think so but it's not going to eliminate it.

The primary reason for these vastly differing rates of crime is not not the availability of guns but the people that live there.
More guns = more gun deaths. Period. States with lessor gun restrictions have higher rates of gun deaths. Fact are facts. Less guns = less death by guns. Period.

Even if gun rights supporters could accept that more guns = more gun deaths - they'd just say "But but but... Second Amendment!" And ignore the whole militia part of it.

It is a pointless argument. As long as the Second Amendment is interpreted as it is today, it doesn't matter if more guns = more gun deaths had its "aha moment" like when cigarette makers had to admit that smoking caused cancer. Without a new interpretation of the Second Amendment, this argument is a waste of time.

States with the highest rates of legal gun ownership on average have the lowest murder rates by guns and that is a fact. See what I'm saying?

The "gun deaths" stats include accidents, suicides and justifiable homicides. It should not take a genius to realize that in areas with high rates of legal gun ownership accidents, suicides and justifiable homicides* by gun are going to be higher than area that restricts the legal ownership of guns. Depending on where the stats were compiled from justifiable homicide can even include the actions of law enforcement. Similarly houses that have stairs have high rates of death due to them.

If you want to have an educated discussion about this I'd suggest sticking to the relevant stats which should only include gun deaths due to crime.

Clearly there is more gun deaths here in the US but "gun deaths" typically accounts for every type of firearm death and can even include justifiable homicide by police officers.

If you want to have a honest discussion one could point out that above average murder rates in the US is driven by the absurdly high murder rates in the black community. Most of those murders are committed by guns.

But it isn't even worth the discussion. If it was proven (or if people accepted the proof) that more guns = more deaths, even aside from "justifiable" homicide, gun rights supporters would just say "But, Second Amendment" - end of story. So, none of this matters really.

The next time someone says that banning guns will stop violence, we need to confront gun-grabbers with the facts.
You lied in your thread title and it needs to be changed.

Another conservative ~ another lie.
