I used to be against it. However, no organization should be this powerful, this influential on our politics, and this wealthy without being taxed. I think the church's political activism is going to result in, sooner or later, the inevitable. I think now is the time to start talking about it since the church shoulders most of the responsibility for Donald Trump and the current political environment. Maybe that tax money could help pay for universal health care, you know, something Jesus actually would be for?
In case you didn't know, Muslim mosques and other religious organizations have equal tax exemptions.....before you get too over yourself on your hatred of Christians.
A good case in point: In pretty much every Western European nation, there is a Church Tax. Doesn't matter whether you are an atheist, they collect it anyways to fund the maintenance of Europe's many cathedrals and churches and to fund the operation of religions.
Germans can officially "leave the church" and no longer have to pay the tax. I have a dear friend who chose to do that.
Two neighbors pool their money to built a mutual barbecue pit. Each puts in $2000. Should the government be able to say "Whoops. That's $4000 in income you didn't report." Insane, right? That's not income, is it? Nobody made any money.....Well, it's the exact same logic if you try to tax a church, which is nothing more than a group of people pooling their money together. It's not income.
So then we understand the real reason for wanting to tax churches is anti-religion bigotry from the leftwing atheists.
Why not tax churches, and all other religious organizations? I think they are just businesses.
".
Most churches have fewer than 100 members pooling their money together. So what's the business? What is the money-making mechanism? There isn't any. Wanting to tax churches is nothing more than anti-Christian bigotry.
It basically amounts to a government subsidy for political activity that benefits the R party.
And there is a plethora of liberal organizations taking advantage of the same tax regulations churches do.
Churches do not avoid tax because they are religious organizations. They are taxed based on the same rules and regulations of any non profit. If you want to change those rules you will be affecting organizations like the Little League, youth organizations, food pantries, the Red Cross, the NAACP, the Sierra Club and many, many others.
