As for how people look, I couldn't care less. As long as they are decent, upstanding, friendly people who pull their weight in society (i.e. aren't perpetually unemployed, doing drugs, etc.), that's all I care about.
Who cares if they are unemployed if they are good neighbors. They need to have income to live so maybe they are on disability or have investments or early retirement, etc. If they are home during the day they can watch for suspicious things going on.

My family lived next to a guy who built a bomb shelter. He told us we could not use it when the big one fell, we would need to build our own.

I only know about one neighbor's politics because she has signs for local politicians and had a loud fit on election night at 2am or so. Otherwise, no idea about anyone else.

Is it better to be around the same race? Or like minded people? For example, a geoup of people who enjoy cars or gaming, or music. But you might be a minority in terms of race within that group.
Think, act like me. I'm mixed race btw.

The only Humans I enjoy being around are my wife and our daughter.

Other members of this species can stay away.

All other creatures are welcome.

Not picky. Moved recently, neighbor on one side is friendly, the other one is not.

No, I actually rather live among people who culturally the same as me. Race makes no difference.

I used to live next to a guy, older, who had a Swastika flag in his living room. Saw it through the window. He never talked to anybody.

I don't care if the people around me look like me. I do care that the people around me think like me and vote like me. This is why it makes more sense for us as a country to regionalize. Blue state people think differently from red state people in pretty much every conceivable way. Better to separate with no anger and find areas of periodic diplomatic agreement (or not).

The second option obviously.

Although living around people with the same core values, I find very hard to find.
I'm definitely living in the wrong place for that at the moment.
