Could be force of habit. After a few months in the military my hand was throwing salutes by reflex. LOL.
Cant say that is a fact for Trump, but I can understand it if thats what happened.
The POTUS should not initiate nor return a salute to a foreign general.
I don't think FDR saluted Stalin - those guys all shook hands during WWII.
Saluting usually means respect to a valid and higher ranking officer. Or you return a salute....if a lower officer salute you (optional, I assume).....

The funny thing is that the left--yes, the same left that was applauding Chairman Kim for calling our president a dotard--would be crying foul is President Trump failed to return a salute. That is how deranged many on the left are!

If you mean both the DPRK and Democrat Party leadership, I agree.
No left and right winged Americans. Seen some dumb ish from my side, especially with the overly sensative SJW type, and seen the right with their overly cultish support for trump and denial of most things that go against their agenda.
One side thinks there's more than one gender.
The other thinks there's no such thing as climate change.

I don't disagree that there are more than a few left wing loons and right wing loons who fit this profile. I see it less in the right's leadership vs. the left's leadership, though.

The White House released a statement they coached Trump NOT to salute and he did anywsys. Technically not wrong but discouraged by tthe White House administration.
Military protocol requires that the junior man salute first and the senior man answers if he so wishes.
US Armed Forces do not salute an enemy.
