Every thread in this forum that becomes a discussion of religion gets locked or deleted. I'd like to continue discussing the actual topic so...

Everyone should keep in mind, 80+ yrs in the future, its likely the people living then will be criticizing some of the 'faux paus' we take for granted today, kind of hard to tell what those things may be, but I think we can be sure there are tolerated/accepted things today that eventually will not be, and people of that time will probably be called out on it one day.

They will probably ban her books from all public libraries, next.

Well, that’s pretty cut and dried.

Kinda makes me sad because I’m a huge fan of her books and I read them all as a kid.

But, I’m not a Native American, so....
I think people tend to react badly to people that try to kill them, regardless of race or religion.

Stop with the phony hysteria. They merely changed the name of the award, for God's sake, to better reflect today's values for the people who are receiving the award today. No one is suggesting her books be edited to remove anything, nor is anyone suggesting they be banned. Well, except for fearmongers like you, anyway.

I am mature enough to realize that the books are a representation of the thinking of the time, and can still enjoy them for their literary and entertainment value without become unhinged because the attitudes that prevailed at the time are ones that we no longer hold to be admirable.

That's pretty much the thinking of the people who made this decision. Horrors!

The thinking of those people is that Ingalls Wilder can no longer be considered a fitting role model for aspiring young writers because she was part of the group of American pioneers who settled the west and took it from the Indians.

I can’t believe just how whacked in the head so many in this society have become that we are actually having this conversation. Just burn all books, especially history and destroy all statues.

Just like George Orwell wrote. It’s all coming true.
