Trump hasn't spent 10 seconds actually thinking about border security. He just came up with a slogan for his stump speech and ran with it. His cultists fell right in line because they were convinced by lies perpetrated by Russian bots that Hillary was the devil.

But in all honesty, they should build that wall and lock her up. Tens of millions of Americans agree, and that is why she lost. Trump tapped into that fermenting sentimental quite effectively. Much more effectively than anything Hillary ever did, other than lying with great ease.
Economic populism, growing, and protecting the middle class will beat Trump’s phony populism in 2018 and 2020.
